Brand Bengaluru gets its own logo

Courtesy Deccan Chronicle

Bengaluru: Come Sunday and the city will have its own logo with Vidhana Soudha providing the backdrop, to give Brand Bengaluru a better identity on the global tourism map. The logo will be unveiled by Chief Minister Siddaramiah at the Namma Bengaluru Habba, a street festival.

Speaking of this initiative of his department, Minister for Tourism, Priyank Kharge says the crowd-sourced logo truly represents the deep connection the city has with its people.

"Today, after months of brainstorming and planning, we have come up with the perfect logo that captures the spirit of the city and its people. What's more, the design comes from the people themselves. The logo will help to leverage Bengaluru's identity better and create a brand value that could in turn stimulate the hospitality industry and create jobs by attracting more footfalls," he explains, adding that Brand Bengaluru is not found only in its coffee shops and shopping malls, but is also provided by every citizen, every street and locality.

"The new logo captures and provides an opportunity for citizens , both the old and the new, to really get in touch with the city and its ethos," he adds.

Logo now unveiled.

Disappointing. This doesnt represent Bangalore at all.

Is there any way they can squeeze in some potholes, traffic jams and Silk Board in the logo? Or how about the brazen corruption going on in broad daylight in the name of "White Topping"? Relaying perfectly good roads while ignoring broken roads.

Or maybe just a picture of our CM sleeping during working hours?

re: Brand Bengaluru gets its own logo

Well, there is always a start.. Hope it is not just cosmetic..
There was a report in Times of India in a citizen - Government connect where the idea of making Bangalore an autonomous city was discussed.

Link:
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/62236377.cms

Excerpt:
"
Can Bengaluru be an autonomous city? The idea of Bengaluru being an autonomous city - responsible for its own governance and independent of a larger district administration - seemed to capture the imagination of residents participating in TOI's 'Bengaluru Forward' meeting.
The mayor would be in charge of administration - as in cities like London, Berlin and Buenos Aires. Civic officials part of the discussion were open to the idea.

This will never happen. Has been discussed for Mumbai multiple times in last decade. The political muscle will never allow a cash cow to go out from state.

Re: Brand Bengaluru gets its own logo

Branding Bengaluru is indeed a commendable move by the state government and yes first of its kind in the entire country. Kudos to the State Government.

While branding provides an immediate connection to essence of the city, at the same time it is much more important that the City strengthens its base essences which per se would provide long lasting memoirs to the travelers / tourists / visitors. It is equally important that the road map to utilize this branding exercise is made more specific and applicability ensured. Branded Bengaluru, to me would be a city that is cool, vibrant, modern, free from traffic chaos, well provided and well administered city. The road map for implementation of the branding needs to be clear as what measures the government shall take in improving the road infrastructure, meeting power demands, water supply, increasing green foot print, quicker modes of public transportation, restoring the eroded parks/ garden spaces and more importantly public safety. Optimum utilization of available assets should be on priority. Meticulous planning accompanied with swift action by the Government would be the need of the day.
Yes, branding is not just one isolated item but an entire package of activities in itself. In other words it cannot be just a one day event but a process which needs to be implemented in entirety in a planned and sequential manner. Given the present scenario, the existing government has about a year or so in its hands, before the state goes for elections. So I am afraid this branding would end up remaining a one day event without the ancillary activities (that are much more important) seeing the day light.
The task is huge, time is less and hurdles are much more. However with right combination of political will and support from responsible citizen, implementation of good schemes should be much easier and enjoyable.

Every single visitor I've had in the last 5 years, domestic or foreign, unanimously detests coming here.

No amount of 'branding' will change that. What will, is never going to happen because there's no money to be made or elections to be won based on that.

The situation is the same elsewhere in the country. What is different in other places is the varying level of willingness (of people) to admit this ground fact.
