Disappearing Optical Illusion - The Troxler Effect

Your brain is a magician. And now, for its next trick, it will make a field of pastel colors disappear before your very eyes!
Take a look at the image below. Pick a spot in the center of the picture, and stare only at that spot for about 20 seconds. Try to let your eyes relax there, without letting them stray to any other corner of the image. Ready? Set? Stare…

You should notice something peculiar happen: As you gaze at a single spot, all the colors around it slowly fade to white. Think too hard and everything comes whooshing back again. But where did everything go?

This is not a GIF in disguise. This is your brain on an optical illusion called the Troxler Effect, or Troxler fading, and it reveals how your mind's natural affinity for efficiency can sometimes lead you astray.

Tried it several times. colours didn't go away. Wife says it proves what she suspected all along i.e. that I don't have a brain.

Usually, these optical illusion thingies do work pretty well, but for some reason, this one refused to!

Stare at the mobile screen for too long - and eyesight will soon start to fade anyways.

Works for me. Big relief knowing my brain is 'too smart for its own good'.

For me it's peculiar; even the point I was focusing on, it also got faded after its surroundings did!

My brain is probably more tricky then!!

Just as Neil DeGrasse Tyson says: optical illusions should actually be renamed as brain failures. Cause that is what they actually are! Shows how limited our 5 senses are, so much so that we could create objects to fool ourselves. Imagine the extent of things there could be fooling us right now while we are comfortably ignorant of them as they are above and beyond our perception/imagination!
Scary thought but fun to contemplate!

Works great. My mind that is.

Another point to ponder can also be the order in which the colours fade. Now there should also be a study of the order of the colours disappearing.
Like if Yellow is the last remaining colour to fade then you'll be gifted a Yellow Ferrari this year!! :P

Holy moly. Started at it and in about 5sec or so, it "seemed" all white.

Interesting thing though, that it appeared as original after I blinked.

Initial few attempts, colors were as it is.
After that colors faded. But never went away.
In last attempt, the colors appeared getting weird and suddenly brighter after fading.

Wonder what my brain is upto !

Works for me too. The first attempt at taking this test took about 10-15 seconds, before everything went white. Then I blinked, and again the colours reappeared, but this time they faded away again within 5 seconds, and this repeated.

I tried and it worked the first time in about 10 secs. The 2nd time it did not seem to be working. But then after about a minute it started to blur and then the screen went black (not white) !!

Realised that my phone screen had timed out

I'm scared of staring at something on the screen. In most Whatsapp forwards with stare tasks, a ghost comes screaming at you after 10 seconds.
