My List besides some already mentioned:

The Salesman - Asghar Farhadi (Some of his other movies are highly rated as well but i am yet to watch them)

The Brand New Testament

The Train to Busan - (Zombie Movie done right!!)

New Kids Nitro/Turbo - like a dutch version of Ali G but way more hilarious

Les Intouchables - This has been remade in Tamil/Telegu (Oopiri/Thozha) and English (The Upside)

Cant think of others at the moment.

PS. Great thead, and kudos to OP

Great Thread..

Memories of Murder(Korean), one of the best I've seen.

Any movie by Akira Kurosawa(cult favorites like Seven Samurai, Ran) Rashomon and Ikuru are better in a different way.
The Director(AKira Kurowasa) and Actor(Toshiro Mifune) are like Rum and coke.. :)

Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli plus others(nice to watch with kids).

Some of best movies I discovered were on a rainy day or lazy afternoon, on some movie channel or cable in the 90's.. the days, when there was no internet, IMDB or AFI to "recommended" me something.

btw, IMDB is nice place to check for recommendations or lists, few gems can be discovered in sub threads.

Thanks. It would help to consolidate all the titles, and add a column to show on which streaming service its available.

So here are a few personal 'bests' that I always have in my hard drive and have watched several times.

From your best list, I could only find "Elite Squad - The Enemy Within" and "The Wandering Earth" on Netflix. I don't know why Netflix blocks so much content for Indian viewers. I had heard about "The man from nowhere" earlier and had already searched for it.

Sorry man, i found some links which don't have english subtitles. I will once again check and inform you.

You see that's the problem with foreign language films, you don't get to watch them easily online with english sub titles. A google search would give you some links to trailers and some selected scenes which only gives you a glimpse. Some site just pop up for a while and then disappear due to a legal notice or something. I don't understand why some production house has to be so protective of a film like Nikita which was released in 1990. They still want to make money out of it. :Frustrati

Have always wanted this thread. Few from my end.

Old Boy (2003) : Has been remade in various languages, but none have been as good as this one.

Memories of Murder (2003) : Amazing movie based on real life incidents.

Infernal Affairs (2002) : Original of the Departed. Far superior to the English version.

There are many more in Latin American, Spanish, Italian, Iranian, Korean that i adore to mention. I will add on eventually. I think i had mentioned the Studio Ghibli movies in the English movies thread due to absence of such a thread earlier.
Edit: Noticed two of these were already covered by others.

Here are few of my favourites , apart from the ones which have already got mentioned here:

(i) No Man's Land [ Bosnia, 2001] - Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2001.

(ii) Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens) [Argentina, 2000]

(iii) High and Low [ Japan, 1963 ]

(iv) Jagten (The Hunt) [Denmark, 2012]

(v) Spoorloos [ Netherlands, 1988]

Great thread.

Like someone has mentioned, it would be great if someone can point to an online source where these movies can be streamed/ downloaded.

What. A. Thread.

Now, to start collecting these movies.

A few of my favorite:

DAG (Turkish)
DAG II (Turkish)
Mongol (Mongolian)

and a few Anime from studio Ghibli. All of them are excellent movies, unbelievable stories, beautiful soundtrack, capturing the beauty;of life, nature; Japanese culture; human emotions i can keep on writing.

Howls Moving castle(Japanese)
Spirited Away
My neighbour Totoro
Castle in the sky
Ponyo
Porco Rosso
The wind rises

Will add more later.

The French Taxi Series. Hilarious! :D

District 13 was also a good watch.
