Beemer: Like I said the Tucson will (I should have said might be) be made here. Not yet.But wait a while. It'll be assembled or manufacured here,IF demand picks up after a while.Nothing decided as of yet.As of now,it'll be brought in as a CBU.

Heres my list though not in this order -
1. Merc W124. E250 preffered however
2. OHC - any model, i have seen quite a few good used cars and i dont mind buying one but i am looking around for a VTEC and if i cant find a good one, i have shortlisted 2 cars - 2003 1.5,1.3
3. Palio 1.6 GTX - nothing beats this... will last till i die
4. Mondeo - Duhh!!
5. its a tie - octy 1.9 and a baleno and petra. - the best family cars for enthusiasts..

Why leave out the current Merc's? Seems a rather artificial distinction. Although it doesn't matter for me since they don't make it to my top 5 anyways.
So, here goes. My INDIA top five are :
1. The Chevy/Subaru Forester. The drivers car most suited to Indian roads - or their absence! When the facelifted 2.5l model arrives later this year, it's only going to get better.
2. The Honda Accord 3.0. 'Nuff said.
3. The Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi. Affordable luxury.
(now it starts to get tougher)
4. The Opel Vectra. A technological tour de force, though obviously not very much appreciated by the value conscious Indian market.
5. 5th place is a joint finish between two long awaited newcomers - The Hyundai Getz CRDi and the Maruti Suzuki Swift 1.5 JTD... If they are ever made available here, that is!
(I would have put the Palio 1.6 GTX in 5th, but I believe it is no longer sold).
Hey john,
i am not sure of the swift coming in JTD as after the fallout with GM, fiat may only manufacture it for themselves and not share it with other GM companies.

If that happens we, the Indian consumers will be the losers.
for me, it's the cars that others are benchmarked against so here goes
1) palio 1.6 GTX/S10 - what a car - seamless power, superb handling, neverending pleasure - a little rocket
2) indica v2 - kick me for this - but here's the car that started the diesel consumer revolution in india - slowly but stealthily, the indica v2 has now become synonymous with economy and family motoring
3) octavia 1.9 diesel - surely this is the car that all cars were benchmarked against for fit and finish, safety, ride, handling, luxury and of course economy - till today other cars in this segment struggle against it.
couldn't really think of any other class leaders - it's easy to make great cars at great prices!
