Watch live video feed of Wild Animals in the Vandalur Zoo

This is not something new. This has been there for quite sometime. Just wanted to share this now because children and animal lovers will not be able to visit the zoo physically for the next couple of weeks/ months.

This is a live CCTV feed of the animals in the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) located in Vandalur, Chennai. It is about a 15 Kms drive from the Chennai International Airport. It is also popularly called the Vandalur Zoo.

Established in 1855, it is the first public zoo in India. It is affiliated with the Central Zoo Authority of India. Spread over an area of 602 hectares (1,490 acres), including a 92.45-hectare (228.4-acre) rescue and rehabilitation centre, the park is the largest zoological park in India. The zoo houses 2,553 species of flora and fauna across 1,265 acres (512 ha). As of 2012 the park houses around 1,500 wild species, including 46 endangered species, in its 160 enclosures.[9] As of 2010, there were about 47 species of mammals, 63 species of birds, 31 species of reptiles, 5 species of amphibians, 28 species of fishes, and 10 species of insects in the park.

Re: Watch live video feed of Wild Animals in the Vandalur Zoo

Don’t want to go off on a tangent here, but it’s sad that such majestic beings are shut up in enclosures and cages when we were responsible, in the first place, for the dwindling of their population in the wild. I’m aware of conservation and all, but whatever artificial comforts we can provide them, nothing comes close to nature. But thanks to the current situation, humans are being forced into enclosures (the dramatic irony), and animals are coming out more.

On a slightly happier note, the dogs in our locality have been coming out in the open by the dozens. Though their barking in the middle of night is arguably less cute.
