Engineering Thread : Post all your Non-IT Engineering queries here

No doubt, this is an Automotive forum. Beyond automotive passions, there are among us who pursue engineering disciplines professionally too. This thread can act as a way for peer-peer communication for those who have queries and information to post on following topics.

1. Electrical & Electronics engineering
2. Instrumentation and Control engineering.
3. Civil & structural engineering
4. Chemical and Process engineering
5. Bio medical instrumentation
6. Production engineering
7. Metallurgical engineering.

and any subject related to Science streams. Since we have dedicated threads for Avionics and Marine , they are left out here. There are also many IT related threads too, so leaving it out too.

Great idea srini1785. Many members would be benefited by this thread and it shall serve as a good platform to resolve one's queries as well as enrich one's knowledge.

I appeal all BHPians to actively use and follow this thread.

Please add mechanical engineering too in the subjects to be discussed here.

Re: Engineering Thread : Post all your Non-IT Engineering queries here

Thought i would present the first problem here. I am dealing with a particular problem for a real industry application. I have a ball screw arrangement (4mm pitch, 12mm dia) to lift a load of approx 8Kgs with a cantilever of 200mm from center axis. The screw is driven by a servo motor. The speed of up down movement is approx 10mm/min. What would be the minimum torque needed of the motor and wattage?. Simple sketch given below.
