Hi Guys,
I was taken for a test ride on Corsa 1.6 Royale yesterday evening.....a pre-owned car, run around 19800kms.
Color - Black, Registered in 2001.
They are asking for 3lakhs.
Owner selling it as he has few other cars, and was not using this too much.

The ride itself was good..I mean the handling seemed to be good, with good pickup, good handling round the corners, over the potholes(!!) etc etc.

What do you think guys, in following order :
a) Is the price okay
b) I do quiet a bit of highway driving....
c) FE they said : 9km in city/ 13km in highway (with a/c)... true or false??
d) Royale was a limited edition...I guess it was only the cosmetic changes nothing else than normal Corsa.
e) If I go for it (much depends on the opinions from Team-BHPians), I want to get the headlamp glasses changed to CLEAR glass lens..similar with tail lamp...is that possible?

Now your opinion pleaseeeeeeee

a) The price is OK if the car is in a very good condition. Try negotiating it to 2.6-7
b) I guess 88 bhp is enough for Indian highway driving *So u wudnt be left behind.
c) No idea abt FE
d) Ya the Corsa Royale had only cosmetic changes. 1.6 Royale: + alloys, spoiler with high mounted stop light, tachometer, multi-intelligence digital (MID) display with wood finish cover (the centre part and instrument cluster are also in wood finish).

e) You can get the lights changed to clear lens.

Hey V12,

GM launches an updated model every year, so I think the article is talking about the udated Royale for 2003-04. Although i cant remember when exactly they launched the first Royale, I'm almost positive it was much before Sept. 2003.

BTW, didnt the Royale also come with a sunroof?

Arijit, the Corsa is a nice solid car, though it is a bit high on the maintenance side compared with the Hyundai's and Maruti's. But, for highway use I feel it would be much better than either the Accent or an Esteem. However, the owners claims of 9-13 Kmpl seems a little over the top. Expect more like 7-8 Kmpl in the city and 10 on the highway.

3 Lakhs seems like a decent price provided the car is in good condition. 20,000 Km for a 2001 model is quite low, but as ou said, the owner has other cars and doesn't use this much. Make sure it has been serviced well though.

Good luck

Arijit,

I dont recommend a new Opel to anyone, and neither would I recommend a used one. They have a significantly higher cost of ownership (in time, depreciation, maintenance).

I agree. Also one of my friend had huge problem with his Astra service in Calcutta. Arijit,I suggest you check the service support also.

hey arijit,
my sister owns a corsa 1.6 royale. in terms of FE i think it gives her between 6-8 in the city and about 9-11 on the highway, so its heavy on the pocket to run. ive driven it only a few times, felt pretty ok, but the space around the pedals is very cramped. and i agree with GTO in not recommending an opel, new or used. cos its very expensive to maintain and im not too sure about the service either. My sister wasnt happy with the service so she now gets her car serviced somewhere else. anyways, all the best in finding yourself a good deal with any car u finalise on.

I would suggest a IKOn 1.6 Zxi in place of the corsa.

A 2000 model would be abt 2.40 in bbay and 2001 for abt 2.85 approx
1. better handling, ikon can thrown around for sporty rides.
2. Better FE compared to the corsa. 8.5 in bbay in city with ac
and 13 to 13.5 with ac on highway.
3. better looks IMO
4. larger rear legroom
5. excellant low end torque.
6. not so difficult to maintain like the corsa .we have team-bhians ikons driven 50000-60000 km without any probs.

GUYS,
Going by your advises i.e. NOT going for the Opel Corsa.

I even had a chat with my mechanic...he also raised the same points as mentioned here by some of you.

THNXXXX for the opinions.
