Good point. It does seem a shame to waste it. I don't think we generate enough here for experimentation.

I'd suppose that it must have a high impurities content. This may not be good for plants, and might leave more hard-water stains on your tiles.

...And there are marks on our toilet ceiling from learning the spray-under-pressure lesson! ;)

Prices: Pressure pump, Rs16,500. Solar water heater (200 Litre vacuum tube model) Rs27,000.

Damn. Wish I hadn't asked now! I can't believe I spent that much --- although I have a very bad record in the spending department...

Instead why not consider packaged drinking water ? 25 litres kinley costs me just 60 bucks ! And over that home delievered free of cost !

Am looking for a simple purifier - something like the Classic Eureka Forbes
purifier, one cost 5000Rs & available only in shops (not through marketing).
It's UV purifier. I have Municipal Corporation Water, so I guess a UV filter
should be good enough.

Does Eureka have a good after sales service? Any other company I should
look at?

How is this company called WaterDoc?

Their office is pretty close to where I stay, hence look at it.

I use this thing called pristine, really nice. water tastes good.

I recently got Eureka Forbes Designa model installed. It is a dealer only model, meaning that you dont get it through Eureka Forbes direct mktg. MRP is some INR 6750 odd but I got it from Hypercity retail, so it cost me some INR 5700 odd. Installation and after sales support is provided by Eureka Forbes.

Overall a nice model, with a sexy design and very compact. It has both options - table top and wall mount. Water purification and speed is also good. I recommend it.

you can try philips, though they are more expensive and start at about 8K. I use Eureka at home, spent about 8K, no issues for last 3 years now.

Service by Eureka - pay them and 'they' forget it :)

I think you can try Food/Big Bazar at Pune Central. Any of the major hypermarket or electronics store should also have it.

I am onto my next project :D - more out of impending necessity though!

We are shifting to Bangalore and are most likely to be staying in the Sarjapur Road area. That area has no municipal water supply, and one must rely on ground water (mostly brought thru tankers). The practice apparently is to buy drinking water separately - something that, I know from experience, can get quite painful.

The ground water, I have seen, tends to be rather hard and of inconsistent quality (not all the tankers come from the same source) . Our poor regular Aquaguard is therefore unlikely to be of any use in these circumstances.

Therefore the need for a REVERSE OSMOSIS system - which I am told is brilliant in such situations!

Cursory research has thrown up three contenders - KENT, EUREKA FORBES and ION EXCHANGE (ZeroB). Would love to know all your views on which of these to go for and why.

KENT RO systems are usually very good and we have 1 installed now for over 3 years. No complaints yet. The company has built a good reputation in this segment and is a worthy leader.

Eureka Forbes has been a relatively new player in RO systems being a leader in normal filtration system all this while and is still playing catch up with RO. Quality wise, it should also be very good banking on good will this company has created. IMO, it is also marginally cheaper.

You should frankly avoid lesser known RO systems because one's health commands no lapse in quality. :thumbs up

RO system has one major disadvantage and that is it filters some real useful minerals which our body needs.For more info use Googling.
Players playing matches get stiffness often,this too has something to do with RO water.Plain water is more healthier than the RO water.Those who regularly drink RO water giveup their strength to fight against seasonal diseases.

RO will not soften your water; for this you will need a dedicated softening unit.

We have Zero-B under-sink RO unit, which has been fine for two years now.

I am interested to buy a softener too. The zero-B unit is something like 50,000, far too expensive. Lesser-known or local brands are a fraction of this price.

Umm interesting stuff. Having lived on RO water since 2004-2008, I can tell you that its lovely - makes you much more aware of sour taste in regular water elsewhere :D

And as my friends know, I eat/drink anything anywhere while on the move - RO water has not made atleast me the slightest bit sensitive. And yes, Kent rocks. ultimate peace of mind.

But how frequently do you need to change the membranes(filters)? Because I had a very bad experience with ZeroB RO system. It worked fine for almost a year after which I was asked to change the complete set of membrane filters. But from then on it would work properly for only a week or so and would need servicing regularly. Fed up with this I stopped using it.

The zero-B units should be serviced every four months. There are the filter cartridges as well as the RO membrane, and they should be cleaned at each service, and replaced, --- I forget, but ours have been replaced once. I believe that the RO membrane is self-cleaning, but its life is not infinite and it can be damaged by chlorine in the water, I think.
