Brutal & insightful book on Carlos Ghosn goes on sale on Sep 20

Carlos Ghosn is known to be one of the world's most feared and admired business executives. He made headlines following allegations of financial misconduct, which led to his arrest in 2018. The subsequent events would fit the plot of a Hollywood blockbuster.

Wall Street Journal reporters Nick Kostov and Sean McLain have now released a book titled "Boundless: The Rise, Fall, and Escape of Carlos Ghosn". It tells the story of the former Renault-Nissan CEO's alleged crimes and his daring international escape.

The book will be released in India around September 20, 2022. But, you can pre-order a paperback copy for Rs 514.

In 2021, a documentary titled 'Carlos Ghosn: The Last Flight' was also released as part of Storyville on BBC Four. It too sheds light on the complex case of financial misconduct and Ghosn's escape from Japan.

Thanks a ton for this information.

Do you have any updates about, how this book will be different than the documentary. I understand that the scope of book is usually wider than the timebound documentary, yet interested to know the additional dose that i will receive from the books.

Thanks
UD

I watched the documentary. Covers all angles of the case, including interviews with CG and Greg Kelly, not so many interviews with the Japanese.

From what I gather, CG's ego got the better of him, Louis Schweizer, his predecessor, clearly calls him out when he started portraying himself more as a celebrity than corporate leader.

I read the Kindle book via Amazon's USA store as I couldn't wait. In one word = outstanding! Will give it a straight 5 / 5 rating. Details the buildup and escape of Ghosn brilliantly, with lots of previously-unknown details. Writing style is A+.

This is one book you won't be able to stop reading, once you start.

After reading this book and many other books / articles, there is no doubt in my mind that Carlos Ghosn was a thief who stole from Nissan. He deserved what was handed to him. He also deserved to be removed from the top posts of Renault-Nissan.

His escape from Japan itself would warrant a Hollywood blockbuster and with his wife abetting his escape makes for a great romance thriller movie. He was a charlatan for sure having siphoned off company funds to fund his lavish lifestyle.

But he was a great leader and a true blue automotive guy who knew how to make an alliance work. For all the allegations on the alleged embezzlements, there might be something more than that meets the eye.

Looking forward to read the book.

Book Review : 4 / 5

This is a book waiting to be made into a blockbuster movie for sure. Extremely fast-paced and ridiculously short; only ~275 pages covering the story from his rise to his downfall.

A couple of quotes from the book that perfectly tells the story of the book

Quote:
How had he gone from Carlos Ghosn the keen observer, eating andouillette and drinking red wine with common workers on the factory floor at Michelin;
to the Carlos Ghosn depicted in manga comics and tailored suits, towering over the global auto industry;
to Carlo Ghosn trying to breathe slowly, escaping Japan in a potential coffin of his own making;
to Carlos Ghosn the local storyteller and emperor of Beirut's Hotel Albergo?
Quote:
At the start, everything he touched turned to gold. And there's almost a point where you wish he hadn't been as celebrated as was in Japan.

He leveraged his fame to overreach for power and shirk accountability. In the end, the toxic combination of ego and drive precipitated Ghosn's downfall and left a trail of destruction.

Battered by the scandal left behind by the former boss, the two carmakers today are a fraction of the size that they were when Ghosn was at the helm.
