Both Gpay and Paytm offer the above...

Biometric authentication for transactions? I used GPay briefly (dumped due to constant failures, debit but no credit) and still use Paytm UPI with a separate account. Both need 6-digit UPI PIN for final authentication. If there's a biometric option, I'd be glad to use it!

There are two pin requirements; for entering into the app and for authenticating the transaction.

The former can be changed to biometric in the security settings. The latter is mandatory on every app, unless you have a wallet linked and use it instead (e.g. possible in Paytm).

ICICI lets you get to a checkout page without any initial authentication on a registered device, plus has biometric transaction authentication. No wallets, direct debit from account linked UPI VPA.

P.S. There's no way to navigate to the main app features from the 'Scan to Pay' checkout page, so it seems secure too.

The number of digits is set by the bank I think. I have 4 digits in Citi & HDFC but 6 in Axis and SBI. Citi didn't even allow me to set it separately; it is the debit card PIN (and cannot be changed within the UPI app).

GPay offers biometric for app login and 4 (or 6) digit pin for transaction authentication. Where is the setting on iMobile Pay for changing the transaction authentication mode to biometric? I couldn't find it. Could only get app login / identity verification option (to change to biometric).

Finding right change is a bit cumbersome. I'm a early user of UPI, but it's street vendors who pushed me into regular usage when I moved to Bengaluru in 2019.

It's a hassle to use Rs.500 notes with Vegetable / Tender coconut / Flower sellers. As soon as they see the note in my hand, they say 'Silre illa, Paytm maadi' (No change, please do PayTM) lol:

BTW, anyone tried Digital Rupee apps? ICICI & a few other banks have separate Digital Rupee apps. This service is also run by NPCI. Not sure whether shops started to accept them.

Picture time.

Choose Scan to pay from app's tap & hold menu:

Scan QR code (can even choose a stored QR code from Gallery/Photos):

Enter amount, select VPA to pay from (if you have more than one). Authenticate with fingerprint.

Done. No PIN, no logging into the actual app.

HDFC Bank App doesn't require a PIN for UPI transactions. There is only former login to the app, which can be biometric. In the app when you do UPI (latter), it doesn't ask for the PIN.

Fampay.
Started Fampay last year when i couldn't open a regular account due to being a minor.
It's a clean and sleek app with near instantaneous payment and it also doesn't make me jump through hoops just to see my balance.

I use PayTM extensively, but for no particular reason. I switched to GPay when paytm was forcing KYC and was almost forcing to open a paytm banks account, but when KYC norms were removed, I moved back to paytm.

We even have 2 fastags from Paytm, so always have some money in wallet.

I used CRED also in greed of some petty cashback, but the app is not well polished so I stopped using it.

I would like to try PhonePe, though I already have one UPI in GPay. I have only one savings account in ICICI. If I link my account to PhonePe, will I still be able to use GPay?

Of course, you can create and use as many UPI accounts as you want, personally, I use Amazon Pay, Google Pay, Paytm, Phonepe, and Airtel Payments too. But nowadays, I tend to use Amazon Pay the most, due to the number of offers I receive.

Voted for Others. I prefer to use the UPI app of the respective bank in which I have my account. Cannot and will not trust third party UPI apps especially PayTM and GPay!

I extensively use Gpay for payments. I just like the clean UI design of the app and hence continuing with it.

Use PayTM for Fastag account recharge.

I use Amazon Pay for ordering something from Amazon when there is a cashback from ICICI Amazon credit card

I was using GPay quite often for most of the payments but off late I see that payments get failed mentioning server/network failure and that too after quite a bit of delay. So I stopped using it and instead use BHIM app. Its UI is again very simple to use as well. I rarely use Paytm and do not have Phonepe.

And they've gone and ruined it.:Frustrati

There's now an extra 'confirm payment' click before fingerprint authentication on the 'scan to pay' screen.

It's still better than typing a 6 digit PIN each time, but not as convenient as earlier.

I have been big fan of Samsung Pay since inception, with credit card as primary choice.
Supports PayTM wallet, UPI as well as Debit/Credit Cards(NFC based virtual card).
Samsung pay shows UPI IDs from different apps(GPay/PhonePe/PayTM) when mobile number is entered, find it very useful.
For Fastag, I recharge PayTM Wallet using Cred via credit card (helps overcome 4K monthly cap)
Rarely use GPay and PhonePe.
