Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Didn't know where to put this query but here goes:

How can I enable UPI on my minor kid's smartphone?

He needs to make digital payments here and there like small purchases from his school tuck shop or paying auto fare etc. I checked with HDFC Bank but they declined even though he shares a joint 'child' savings account with me.

One 'hack' that was suggested is to open another account for myself but put his smartphone number as the communication/alerts number. The branch folks were unsure about the same though.

Any thoughts please? Would like to avoid discussion about why he needs a smartphone and/or why he needs UPI. He does and I want him to.

Why would it not work? The phone does not know who is using the app. I have done the same thing. Opened one account online with one of the payments bank and registered my daughter's mobile number. Only precondition is the bank should offer a physical or virtual debit card.

She is using it for quite some time without any issues.

Even feature phones are coming with UPI apps nowadays. I was not open to give a smartphone to my daughter. She uses a feature phone that has upi app.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I use Google Pay about 99% of the time and Phonepe only when there's a reward. Somehow in my 3 years of using Gpay I have never experienced the infamous issue of money being debited from me but not credited to the receiver.
The rewards, though rarely useful, and the occasional games are quite fun and do grant a few decent rewards as well.
Cheers

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I changed my phone few days back, post that, PhonePe UPI Lite is not working. Shows my balance as Rs. 600 and neither it lets me add balance (I had topped it up & was unaware I might be changing my phone) nor lets me pay anyone using that.

PhonePe wallet is working fine as well as other transactions. Any resolution will be appreciated, thanks .

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I have started paying directly through my IDFC First Bank's app. Though the transactions success rate isn't as great as googlepay (they definitely have aced it)!

I had initially started using IDFC app since the market is just concentrated (PhonePe and GPay ruling the rooster) and I was trying to find out if banking apps can be used or not, but was forced to use IDFC since Citibank's move to Axis resulted in old UPI id disabled.

If you are having a good experience with GooglePay, are there any reasons for keeping and using the PhonePe app? (Maybe just as backup or only for rewards?)

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I got a Rupay card as an add-on to one of my credit cards, tagged it to my GPay account and boom: most UPI transactions are now credit (helps meet spending numbers on the card too, as the Rupay card shares its limit with the primary card account).

Have a bank account linked for P2P transactions (not allowed on cards), but those are rare.

Far more convenient, and far fewer payment failures.

The main reason I still keep and occasionally use the phonepe app is because of the money I've deposited as digital gold. The most useful reward I've received has to be a lenskart gold subscription for free. Extremely useful as my brother has a really high power of 8.5 and the lenses are normally quite expensive but the subscription gives us a buy 1 get 1 free combo every month.

RESOLVED

When ever you are about to change your devices, please log-out from that device, especially, if you are shifting platforms (iOS - Android or Android - iOS).

I had to take out sim from my phone, insert in an iPhone, log in to PhonePe and log out post which the UPI Lite started working (other functions were working but not this & I was forced to pay Rs. 10 / 20 from my main A/C).

The UPI Lite implementations is unlike normal bank account or wallet. You must close the Lite wallet if you are uninstalling the app / switching devices / re-installing the app. Some TPAP like Phonepe or Google or Paytm may have done a slightly better implementation where you can see the balance after reinstalling or switching device but others like BHIM, the balance in UPI Lite simply vanishes if you uninstall and reinstall or switch devices. Their FAQ mentions that the user must close the Lite wallet before switching devices.

If you do it without closing the Lite, then the balance is refunded back into your bank account after about a week.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Hi,

Couple of queries regarding paying through Credit Card linked to an UPI app:

1. Does sending money to an UPI Id using credit card linked to an UPI app attract any charges from the Credit Card provider?

2. Does the Credit Card provider still charge the merchant whose QR code was used to make the merchant payment?

Thanks

Rupay CC cannot be used to pay money to individuals. It can only be used to pay for businesses. For customers to use a Rupay card, the merchant must enable/accept credit card payments. Not all merchants accept cards.

Yes, merchants are charged. Since Rupay is new compared to VISA/Mastercard, the rules change. Currently, merchants are not charged up to Rs 2,000. Above Rs 2,000, it is 2%. (I may be wrong.)

Google Pay doesn't allow UPI payments for minor accounts. I have tried WhatsApp UPI payment and it works for minors. Haven't checked other apps.

My kiddo is using IDC FamPay for now but we will move to UPI Circles as and when it is launched by GPay or PhonePe.
