| Growing "influencer" epidemic in India Growing epidemic of 'influencers' in India and why it is becoming a major issue in our civilized society. The growth and spread of the mass availability of the internet have been both a boon and a bane for our country (more bane, if you ask me). Every day, we witness road rage incidents where people get so angry that they would literally kill you. We see people in blacked-out Mahindra Thars and Fortuners wreaking havoc in the cities of the national capital, and no action gets taken against them (besides calling them to the nearest police station and taking pictures with them to prove to netizens that, hey, the law has done its job!). We see people driving with no plates, and no action gets taken against them. The worst part of all this is that most of them turn out to be some kind of social media "stars" with thousands, lakhs, or even millions of followers! What we are seeing is a rapid decline in intelligence and an equally rapid growth of such social media "influencers" (and the people who follow them) who you can witness committing multiple offenses in a single video alone, but what gets done about them? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I recently came across one such news on YouTube about a so-called steroid-abusing "influencer" from Haryana who abducted an 18-year-old in Gujarat. He made public videos of the victim, forcing him to call the influencer "papa" and subjecting him to other utterly inhuman and disgusting acts. This person is already infamous for reckless driving and committing various offenses. As usual, no strict action has been taken against him yet. I am genuinely fed up with the "law" of this country, which apparently only exists to beat the poor, or protestants or for wrongly fining the average joe. This is not the first time this insane psychopath has done something like this. He regularly gets on the internet and publicly threatens others, including policemen, without any action being taken against him. We all know how big of a joke this country has become, and the law is just another department in this sitcom called India (the recent Porsche case only solidifies that). My point is, how long will we allow this to continue? This might not be a big deal to a lot of folks who do not consume such content, including myself—I came across this through a YouTube news channel. The primary audience of these literal gangsters is youth in their early to late teens, but I just cannot fathom the fact that a guy can get on the internet, drive at triple-digit speeds in oncoming lanes, threaten to beat and kill people, abduct kids, and still walk scot-free! What is going on here!? I have shared this with all the sensible YouTubers (Dhruv Rathee, Akash Banerjee, etc.), but I doubt my message will reach them. I urge you to raise your voice against such scum, get them banned on social media, and put them behind bars for a long time. People like him are just going to get stronger and stronger if no action is taken, and we cannot let this happen. It could be us next time. I share this post here because, unlike mainstream social media, we have a lot of sensible people here, and I hope that we can make a change. I know this is an extremely off-topic post, but I just wanted to share it because such gangsters should not be allowed to roam freely in a civilized society. We have to unite if we want to see the change (or force it, if you will). I request you to please share this incident so that this person can be put behind bars for a long time and people like him would think twice before doing what they do. |
