Re: The Whey Protein Thread

Last one month I am using whole truth protein isolate. I had gut issues with others but this has been really good. Its flavourless and dissolves so clean without foam. Its almost clear after dissolving and doesnt even feel in your stomach.

Added to it its 30gm protein per scoop

But we should keep asking the question why does one need to use protein supplement? How many people actually calculate the approximate amount of protein in their diet to see what the shortfall is. I mean, your diet would have to be utter crap if you think you need to use supplements to fulfill your entire quota of required protein, or even half of it!

Our soil is getting polluted with heavy metals and chemicals. Not sure how you avoid it unless you stop growing on ground.

I am also using TWT isolate and agree with your observations regarding the packaging. How do you transfer the contents from the pack to the jar?

As the powder is very light, transferring it by pouring to the jar is resulting in loss by fine particles flying off.

When I got the latest packet, I also tried to cut it at top side to make a small opening and inserting the cut portion to a big mouthed container to transfer the contents. But the powder got stuck in the opening with the big spoon providing itself. It was a mess to take the packet out, open it at the zip lock, remove the spoon and then transfer contents again through the small opening.

Wish they provide a robust package or container like others.

I am lactose intolerant and TWT isolate is not irritating my stomach unlike ON concentrate. I am also taking it during early day time as I found it the best time for smooth digestion.

Read this on TOI recently. I am sure that for recreational weight-trainers it won't be more that 1 gm per kg, and it should not be difficult to get from our every day food.

Our body will not utilise every gram of protein that goes down our gullet. It will either expel or store as fat any excess nutrient.

I wonder how do bodybuilders with protein consumption of around 2 gm per pound achieve this rare feat?

So which brand did you settle on?

P.S. I am currently using Amul's whey protein, primarily because of the Amul brand. I've used MuscleBlaze and Avvatar in the past.

With a lot of patience!

I used a large soup spoon and did it very slowly, spoon by spoon, while some music played. You could also try a plastic funnel if you have one, but I didn't.

Yes, I somehow grew to dislike all other brands after having TWT Whey Isolate. I really hope their quality stays up.

Re: The Whey Protein Thread

So guys can anyone elaborate the positive effects of using whey protein powder? Does one feel energetic or does one better in any way or it is neutral? Does it really cause any muscle gain in your experience?

Re: The Whey Protein Thread

After trying few brands, we like TWT isolate the most. No bloating, no flatulence. Mixes easily with water (no granular texture) & neutral taste that we can drink directly without adding any other ingredients, like fruits or curd etc. We have seen slight difference in taste & texture between Amazon & TWT website although seller is TWT in both cases. For now, I am attributing that to being different batches. I am also praying TWT does not dilute the quality for sake of volume or pricing etc.

I would rank C4 as one of the craziest things out there! This, followed by the pre workout by GNC are my favorites.

It's a bit tough to get the original C4 in India, and that's where GNC fits in with their own website.

I’ve been working out consistently for a few years now and tend to do my own research before adopting any new fitness habit. Thought I’d share my experience with whey protein, as I’ve seen a lot of misinformation floating around — especially for beginners.

1.Whey is Not Harmful – It’s a Supplement, Not a Steroid

When I first started, many people cautioned me against whey as if it were some kind of performance-enhancing drug. That’s completely inaccurate. Whey is a by-product of cheese production, it’s literally the liquid left over from milk. It’s dried into powder and becomes a protein supplement. Especially in India, where protein intake is typically low, whey is a very reasonable way to bridge the gap.

2.Kidney Damage Myth

One common myth is that long-term whey use damages the kidneys. I’ve been consuming whey almost daily for 5 years and undergo full-body health tests every 6 months, my kidney function is absolutely normal. The key is to stay well-hydrated, with or without supplements.

3.Timing – Not as Rigid as People Think

While there are studies suggesting better muscle protein synthesis if consumed post-workout (within 30–60 mins) or before bed (casein is preferred for nighttime), in general, you can consume whey anytime. It’s about hitting your daily protein requirement, not obsessing over the clock.

4.How Much to Take

This varies by individual. I typically take 1.5 scoops a day, based on the general guideline of 1–1.5g of protein per kg of body weight. That includes both whey and dietary sources like dal, paneer, eggs, meat, etc.

5.Ways to Consume Whey

I prefer whey in a shake, but occasionally mix unflavored whey into my regular atta (for rotis) or add it to homemade idli/dosa batter.

Whey Brands I’ve Personally Used:

1. MyProtein – Good quality, but does contain artificial sweeteners/flavors. Used to be imported from the UK, though now has local sourcing in India. One of my shipments got stuck earlier, so I know this first-hand.

2. The Whole Truth – An Indian brand I’ve come to like a lot. Very clean ingredient list and good flavor. Been using it regularly for 2 years with great results.

3. ON (Optimum Nutrition) – My first-ever protein, bought from a trusted supplement store in Chandigarh (Sector 35). Quality was great, but now that they’ve set up shop in India, I’m unsure if the same standards are being maintained.

4. GNC / MuscleTech – International brands with good reputation — as long as you’re buying genuine products. Desertcart is one place to look for imported options.

5. Others I’m EyeingWellbeing Nutrition and TrueBasics – mostly because they claim third-party testing, which adds credibility in an often murky supplements market.

Notes on Quality & Testing:

There was a study last year where protein supplements were tested for actual vs. claimed content. Some discrepancies were noted, but even the testing method allows a ±10% variance. The bigger concern is heavy metal content, so brands that submit batches for third-party testing (e.g., Clean Label Project) should be prioritized. Wellbeing Nutrition was among the few Indian brands listed there.

Where I Buy From:

1. Direct brand websites.

2. For newer brands (like The Whole Truth, TrueBasics), I’ve safely used Blinkit and Instamart — these are usually direct-sold by the brand themselves. You get more discounts.

TL;DR – Don’t fear whey. It’s just dairy protein. Choose trusted brands, ensure batch testing or clean-label certification if possible, and focus on overall protein intake, not just the supplement.

Hope this helps fellow fitness enthusiasts here! Happy to answer any questions.

Re: The Whey Protein Thread

Been using Whole truth isolate for some time now. It is pretty good and being unflavored allows me to mix fruits/chocolate/peanut butter

Got this last month, and it is good as well.

Re: The Whey Protein Thread

I am a 41 year old guy having high uric acid from last 15 years. It has always been in 7-8 mg/dl range, although, I have no other symptoms related to high uric acid (no gout or pain in joints). So Whey Protein seems to be off the table for me. Any suggestion on reliable protein supplement that doesn't elevate the uric acid levels. Thanks

A pure vegetarian much like yourself, and that's literally pure Vegetarian no eggetarian whatever that is. I was very meticulous about my health through out my late teens and 20's. In my 30s I've definitely let myself go to an extent, however I can give some feedback based on about 15 years of workout experience, on and off..

I started with ONs 'Whey Gold' during the early Talkwalkar(sure miss their prime!) years. Being very young about 17 or so, the concerns were the commonly mentioned ones, i.e. kidney damage because of the sheer concentrate that is whey powder and the typical lack of water consumption that exists for most people. Drank a lot of water and consumed one scoop, which at the time if I recall was 20gms of whey. My workouts during these early years were fairly 'mid' I would say. The results with ONs was similar in nature.
Looking back being a pure vegetarian and the limited options/knowledge we had, I ended up not consuming much in the way of natural diet as one scoop just wasn't enough and at the same time my workouts did not warrant two.
Of course today we know much more for people like us, Tofu, Quinoa etc. etc.

I took a break of few years as I joined the work force early 20s, and resumed workouts in my mid-20s once again. This time I chose the highly suggested ISOPURE brand, learning about such a thing as Whey Isolate and how it was 'pure' whey and quicker absorbing, although priced at a significant premium. I was unsure of the lofty claims and hesitant at first given limited income at the time but decided to try it anyways. My god it was unbelievable! the gains I got from a single scoop were noticeably more than the regular old ONs(should have been the same any other brand) non-isolate whey. Not only better gains but how quickly I got there. My workouts at this time were much much more intense, partially motivated by the near instant results I got from ISOPURE. Yes I put it in all caps as that's how they spell it : )

That's about all I can help you out on Whey Protein feedback GTO. Beyond mentioning the days you spend in the gym you did not share your workout routine in detail so I cannot go beyond this. I would highly suggest ISOPURE brand of all the other whey isolate options in the market. Lastly, whichever product you go with I would highly advise you to directly buy from the official site rather than save a few bucks via amazon or your friendly gym trainer to avoid any counterfeit risks.
Hope that helps.
