RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

Oh man, the legend has passed away. I won’t forget his Jugalbandi with Sivamani and across the stadium he did that with MC hammer in one of his concerts.

The way he moved his fingers on tabla was so fluidic and magical. Tabla would be missed.

Yes . He was only only one year older than me, but even so, from when I first discovered Indian classical music in my twenties, he was always there, and always a star.

Re: The Music Thread

It seems he is alive but in serious condition as reported by Livemint.

https://www.livemint.com/news/world/...280429956.html

It’s through an unverified X account by his supposed nephew Ameer Aulia who has asked all his fans to pray for his good health.

RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

The tabla maestro is no more. I had already booked tickets to his concert in Melbourne which is just few weeks away. Knowing that it will never happen again is truly devastating. Its another one of those things that I wont be able to experience in this life. He will forever be remembered for his remarkable contributions to Indian classical music and his innovative work in fusion genres. He not only preserved but also expanded the boundaries of Indian classical music, making it a vibrant part of the global musical tapestry

RIP Zakir Hussain :(

Just lost for words.

Rashid Khan, now Ustaad Zakir Hussain, 2024 has been devastating for Indian classical music. Just realised that Rashid Khan passed away at the beginning of 2024 and Zakir Hussain in the year end.

Very sad to hear the tragic news. He was not really that old.

I will forever cherish the concert I attended back in 2006, it was a jugalbandi between Pandit Birju Maharaj and Ustaad Zakir Hussain.

The magic of his hands was a sight to behold and a treat to the ears.

re: RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

This is very painful to hear especially for someone who has been learning the instrument for the last 12 years. I am grateful to have seen him perform with Jayanti Kumresh in Bangalore but it hurts me know that that was the first and last time I would hear or even see him :(

Tabla playing will never be the same.

Is the maestro really no more? I see conflicting reports of him being critical and in the hospital!

Twitter has both reports! Very very confusing!

Terrible loss to Indian and world music. Never had the good fortune to experience him perform live.

His pictures from santoor maestro and close friend Pandit Shivkumar Sharma's funeral a couple years ago now seem like him contemplating his own mortality as he mourned his departed friend.

Rest in peace, Ustad. You gave a lot of us a world of joy.

Re: RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

Ustad Zakir Hussain was not keeping well from quite some time now. Was plagued with an heart ailment and ultimately succumbed to it.

Consider myself lucky to have been part of team that organised a few of his Live Shows few years ago; fond memories of interacting with him then. Such a warm and affable personality; a true legend. The goosebumps from seeing him live in action are still entrenched in my memories.

Rest in peace, Ustad!

Re: RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

Felt very sad to read this very first news in the morning.

True to his name, Ustad - he indeed will be remembered as an Ustad of tabla. Personally devoured many of his majestic hand play. Sometimes i was amazed to see the control and mastery over the fingers to create mellifluous melodies.

RIP Ustad. We are always proud of you.

I think some portals published the report 'he is still alive...' bit late. Even I read those news items and I was hoping that they are true. But the family has finally confirmed the sad news.

I met him a couple of times. Very humble, soft-spoken and a master of his art. He will be missed.

RIP Ustaad.

Here's an unforgettable ad from the days when TV was watchable:

Re: RIP Ustaad Zakir Hussain

End of an era in Indian classical music. Have had the good fortune to watch more than 12-15 concerts of him performing live throughout my childhood, including a duet with his legendary father Ustad Alla Rakha. THe last time I had heard him live was in 2017 when he had performed in Bangalore.

He was and will always remain one of the biggest global musicians from India, and a legend in the truest sense of that word. Probably the biggest and one of the most visible ambassadors of Indian music across every nook and corner of the world. An absolute and total genius, with unparalleled musical prowess.
