Not necessary to get it removed .... do what I do when in the hills -- like i mentioned above , I never wear seat belts when in the hills !!! Before getting into the seat simple clip the seat belt into its slot and the light wil stay off . After that u sit normally .... the seat belt is between your back and the seat and the light stays of :D
I hope I managed explaining it ....

Yes. There are chances that people can get thrown out and survive. There are far more chances that they can break their necks and die!
Interestingly, we all talk about laws and government, and yet don't talk about civic sense / social consciousness.
I have always thought that people's criticism of the govt./traffic police is often misplaced when it comes to issues like seat belts / helmets. It's not humanly possible for them to check every car or two-wheeler. Yes, they should impose penalties regularly so as to maintain a deterrent effect for non-compliance, but the real question IMHO is why are people so stupid?
Every single day I drive in Delhi, I see two wheeler drivers without helmets, and worse - if the pillion rider is a lady she will 99.99999% not wear a helmet!! Don't these people know that helmets are for their own safety?!?!
Public opinion and the media are quick to criticize the govt. / traffic police, because that's the easier thing to do, rather than take a deeper look into themselves.

Its slightly confusing but the things is that accidents can be divided into 2 types -- head on collision and going of the road !! Head on Collision --- Speeds in the hills are lower than what we experience in the plains . There obviously will be a few fools who come around corners faster than they should , and chances are that the person doing so would be a city driver . So probability of head on collisions is lower . Even if there is a head on , it would happen at much lower speeds and a seat belt may not have a major impact on saving a life . Thats why seat belts aint that imp ( according to me ) Going of the Road -- In the city a car doing high speeds goes over the divider on the road and into a pole . The seat belt can play an imp role and save one from injury !!! In the hills going of the road means going of and rolling and that could even be at the speed of 20 kmph ( driver dozing of ) . In such a scenario the life of the passengers is entirely in the hands of God -- one could get stuck inside the car and roll 300 ft down and survive or then maybe get thrown out and still die . When one rolls , there is no fixed pattern and impact that one may experience . With the seat belts on the passengers will stay with the car till it stops rolling but without seat belts there is a chance that they might get thrown out and survive . Thats why seat belts shudn't be compulsory in the hills , infact I make sure none of my friends wear seat belts or even lock the doors unless there is a child in the vehicle . Closed doors could have the same effect as seat belts on .
Complicated but true .... !! |
khaadu, this logic is faulty. the safest place in any crash is inside a car. getting thrown out is not something you would like to happen. its ok if you dont want to wear your seatbelt in the hills.
BUT
please dont stop your friends from doing the right thing.
the seatbelt holds you in the seat, keeps you away from hard metal and plastic. it doesnt matter where the impact is from, if you get thrown around in the car, you die. if you get thrown outside the car, you die- unless you land on a conveniently placed bale of hay or moderately deep body of water(provided you are conscious and know how to swim) today's cars can protect us from a lot of damage, if we give them a chance.
the seatbelt prevents you from being thrown around. it saves your life, all the time,
especially in the hills.

Sorry my friend .... u have it all wrong !!! have you ever lived in the mountains .... chances of survival are higher if you get flung out and not if you go with the car . And keeping one away from hard metal --- and how wud you keep your head away from a impact on the roof ???
And hills I don't mean 20 ft drops .... I mean sheer drops and that would mean 200 ft !! It does sound flawed but ask anyone who lives in the real mountains and see what they will have to say .
And don't ya worry about my friends ... I LUV them and wudn't give them wrong advise .
Cheers
@khadu, i'm glad you're taking this discussion in the right spirit.
if someone fell through the air 200ft, their chances of survival will be improved if they have something around them to cushion the impact.
no one will survive a sheer drop like that(200ft) whether they are in the car or out.
by your logic, a bike crash should be safer than a car crash, because the rider gets thrown away from the vehicle immediately.
today's cars are designed to dissipate the kinetic energy in the event of a crash. we are taking away that advantage by not wearing seatbelts.
My his soul rest in peace.
saw a video on discovery channel.
a block of wood with a seat and tyres.
an egg on top of the seat.
roll the block down and suddenly stop it.
egg falls and breaks
put a seat belt on another egg and roll the block.
stop it
egg is safe
made the point very clear.
This video was presented by the guy who invented seat belts.
I'm surprised anyone would even suggest that hill roads don't require the use of seatbelts. I used to live in the mountains and it's in twisty ghat sections that I feel the need for seatbelts is greater, because you get swung around in your seat. If the door opens on a minor impact, the seatbelt is the only thing that stops you from being flung out on to the road. Khaadu, please don't spread misinformation!
<duplicate entry, pls delete>
Me too feels its better to get stuck in a car rather than landing straight into a rock or big branches of tree.
All initials damages will be taken by the car and if we are lucky we should land before the damages to the car gets deeper and deeper to hurt us
But thats my very vague opinion, Iam sure more valid comments will follow to bring more clarity
I have heard that in Merc, the engine wont start unless you have worn your seatbelt. Is it true?
If it is true, I saw a very funny thing recently. I saw a Merc parked with no one inside, with the seat belt put across the seat. Obviously this seat belt must be always in that position to avoid putting it across each time. What a funny way of hijacking your car's safety system as well as your own safety.
Cheers!!
he was working with alleppey medical college and now retired and joined service with some other hospital in cochin.they were on there way back to alleppey.usually there would be 4 of them ,but this fatal day only 2 docs were there in the car.the accident occured in alleppey just 2 kms away from his home.

Thats exactly what I do to avoid the seat belt light blinking when in the hills ... :) !!!

Which mountains did you live in my friend ??? And what makes you get flung around when not wearing a seat belt ..... a normal seat belt doesn't restrict you too much in your side ways movement unless you wearing a 4 point seat belt like in race cars .
As for spreading misinformation ...... Ive spent all my life in the mountains and I know what Im talking about . You guys prefer to roll down with a car with your seat belts on , thats your call coz I still will choose not to wear a seat belt when in the hills and will still tell my friends not to :) . As for scientific reasoning and stuff --- that some vela scientist can do !!
Cheers
Well, My friend fools his mercedes seat belt not on warning light by putting in small cardboard pieces in the slot.
