but any good driver in hills will surely vouch for this,take my word.

and it aint easy driving in hills cos lot of concentration is needed and once you got the basics right and then it turns out to be fun

Khaadu, all these days I have been hearing "wear seat belts, thats important" and few times I had seen how effective these seats belts were in holding you.

Hence "don't wear seat belt on hills" is bit hard to digest. Having said that, I dont have any concrete proof or reasons that it has to be in place even on hills. Hence please do throw more light on to this, so that many will get benefited.

This is like a thread a while ago where I said driving in the hills is safer & quicker at night and most of the ppl here thought I was being stupid and naive :uncontrol

khaadu, i agree with you that driving in the hills is safer at night provided there is no fog. but the seatbelts.....

I think Swift's crashworthiness is proven from the accident mentioned in the post. I happened to see a Swift which was banged at 90 degrees to its length on the left side, lying in from of the Lodhi Colony Police Station 2 days back ( i was on a visit to Delhi).
The red Swift chassis seems to have withstood the hammering from some heavy vehicle but the doors and the B pillar had caved inside about 6 inches. The car was on all four wheels with no visible damage to the engine.

i would like to stay in, khaadu would like to jump out.

the only situation i'd jump out is when i'm on an icy incline, and the car /jeep is sliding without traction towards the edge at a speed of 2-5kmph.
even then, i'd be terrified that the car is going to roll over me.

in a split second skid on tarred ghat roads, or during an extreme evasive maneuver to get away from a bus driver who's taking the racing line, if you lose control, you are done, there is no time to jump. save your car the best you can, and it will save you in return if you let it.

it's not just about time, juts like you mentioned the icy condition, there are many cases when even if you have time, you can't stop the crash.

EDIT: you really need a cowboy attitude to jump and escape, but it does work at times.
