Can Anyone Tell me how to Import a USED car to INDIA?

Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie in this forum and would like to ask a opinion about my query.

I am a NRI, Software Pro. working in Bahrain, i have a Honda CIVIC, and i would like to take her to INDIA with me, is there any procedures to import used cars to INDIA?, I heard that there is a OCTROY / TAX of 120% of the real market value of the car in INDIA!, is it true?

If anyone have IDEA or knows procedures to how the things done, please reply me, am eagerly waiting!,

Does bahrain have RHD? If not, its impossible to do so.

Sell it and buy a new one in India. Would be a lot less hassle. If it were a high end car it was worth it but definitely not for a civic. Import duty is 120% plus there's road tax, registration, bribes to get it out. Simply not worth it.

I wanted to get the nissan patrol/safari, I really like it and I dont want to get the super common Q7s and the Cayennes and Xs, plus i prefer a proper SUV that will be really comfi on our treacherous roads.

Would nissan dealer be able to help me or I need an agent. There use to be some, but now I dont know of any.

I know of these these guys can help you out with pretty much everything you would need. They even have a finance option available. I don't know if you have already heard of them. Here is the link:

I doubt the Nissan dealers will be able to help you get one. They dont even help people get in GTRs.

An independent well known dealer like the one mentioned above is probably a good choice.

4. Will it involve giving a lot of bribe to officials?
5. Can i send some spares also along with the car?

My heart is sold an Ford mustang from the day i learnt driving,
there is a listing on ebay at just 12k $.

Can anyone please tell me what is the procedure of importing a used car in india from USA, and what are the steps i have to take.

My budget is around 1 million, can't shell out more,
so if it can be imported below this budget,
i will give advice giving members a free test drive
