No stopping India: Now Videocon wants to buy Motorola

Yes! There's no stopping for Indian companies these days. As we are all still cheering the JLR aquisition by the Tatas, up comes this news of Videocon wanting to buy the Motorola's mobile handset division.

All of a sudden some of the world's best brands are becoming Indian.

I am waiting for the time when Apple would be put on block. (May be that is wishful thinking but no harm in dreaming is it? )

Corporate India out on a shopping spree again. This is the easiest way to acquire a brand with good equity and history. The made in India tag though climbing up the equity stakes still needs some time to catch up(quite like the Japanese in the 80's).

Waiting for Jack Daniels to have a made in India tag ...

Going by the things that are happening, it might just happen (fingers crossed).

well, the question is will videocon be able to maintain motorola's quality?

Also, We really dont have a true global auto brand. Maruti and hyundai are exporting a lot, but they are using lots of foreign inputs. Tata's quality...we all know about it.

Hopefully tatas dont interfere with them. last thing you want is a cabin light cover falling off in a range rover or a XK

Or is Motorola willing to sell their cellphone division to Videocon?

IMHO, this is a cheap publicity stunt by Videocon. The CEO himself stated that Videocon has merely sent a statement of interest. Thats all!

I worked at Motorola before and i must say that Motorola was under heavy losses with its phones and the condition was pretty bad! Majority of their resources are being shifted to settop box divisions. They were planning to sell off the mobile unit when i was their around 5 months before itself, don't know about the present condition.
