We have the "real auto enthusiast journos" part taken care of, as Sirish and Bertrand who have been with OD for over eight years and are responsible for OD's current enthusiast approach, are on the show as well. So expect not less, but even more than what has made the mag's content over the past years and given it the trademark OD enthusiast streak.
We are all ears for all criticisms, positive or negative- and I'm sure this being a forum for true automobile enthusiasts, its members will have the discretion of how to put up their opinions in a manner appropriate for a public forum.
The timings of the show and the repeat telecasts are as Techno posted.
Best Regards,
Team OD.
P.S. Thanks for the welcome and title clarification.:)
Oh from what I have been reading here looks like you guys have made a good start. You would be testing every car at MMST, very good.clap: As someone who has just got tired of shows being hosted by absolute idiots who describe every other car's styling as nothing else but contemporary( of course repeated a zillion times) and who are not from an automobile background nor have any sort of inclination, I hope this show would see it itself apart from the crowd, sort an amalgam of BBC Top GEAR, Five's Fifth GEAR and our very own BBC wheels(used to be one of the best shows on Indian TV sometime ago, just loved the Parsi Guy's detailed how -to's).
About Shreen Bahn, it would be interesting to see her on an automotive show especially after she said that her inspiration was Jeremy Clarkson,. Had she not started now, she would have be the recipient of one of my angry e-mails about her non participation in such shows despite having JC as her inspiration:D.
Remember talking to Bertand about this, lets see how much of that conversation materializes tomorrow, hope to see a some good rubber-burning action .
Welcome to Tbhp..it's good to see Team_OD on the forum, I missed out on the show but hoping to catch the rerun. I have been a fan of the mag for long time now, I still hold on to the issues[ from the first one], the road tests are really informative.
You guys should include some sections or at least a quarterly section on the tunning/modifying seen in India, and not just photos..good bit of details on the cars/bikes.
Welcome to the forum Team-OD, this is indeed a welcome change from the attitude of most mags towards online forums. This reflects that you understand that there is indeed a knowledgeable group of enthusiasts online whose feedback would be invaluable to a publication like yours for the magazine & the show both. And of course, it's all free!!
What I like best though is your open approach to taking the bouquets & more importantly the brickbats towards your ventures. Constructive criticism is the best help one can get.
Will try & watch a rerun of your pilot show & post my views on it. Best of Luck!
Welcome to TBHP.
I am waiting to catch the repeat telecast tomorrow. Going by your attitude (open to criticism thru the forum.. etc) i already feel that you are keen on making this an enthusiasts show, you know, from enthusiasts for enthusiasts and not just some blokes reading lines from a script.
Well done.
so how does this shows shooting exactly work? Do u guys throw a camera man into the back seat when doing your regular tests for the magazine?
Will definatly check out the show this weekend,i hope it is and remains unbaised. I find the anchor on the ndtv car&bike show very annoying so this is a welcome change.
I hope you will let us in on the inside scoops on the auto industry from time to time :) welcome to tbhp!
Ok Here are my comments on the Show:
-- The startup visuals look good.
-- The coverage was very much like we read in the mag plus more so was good.
-- Individual car coverage was nice & to the point(Though I wish more features were listed but I guess thats not possible since there is a time limit in a TV show).
-- The rain drive coverage was slightly more than track one & I would have loved to have more of track.
-- Really liked the coverage of MMST track's history but would have liked to get more details like track length, chicanes & a map or an overview. I hope this gets covered in coming weeks
-- After all the comments about the fact that the real winner would be the one which is fastest & initial laps, no results were declared instead its just told that the Beemer was best. IMHO results should have been declared if not at least the ranking for each car on track.
-- I saw two shots where camera was visible I think this should not be the case but I dont think OD guys can do anything about it as its TV18's crew.
-- Last but not the least I really don't like people putting their feet on a car especially with heels but then may be its just me.
Overall the show was nice & couldn't find any major goof up :)
It's always fun to see cars take it to track. It's nice to see somebody break the monotony of the regular auto shows. Atleast it was a lot more casual than some of the other shows on TV.
Some of the camera work could use some tweaking. It seemed reminiscent of Ksoap Koperas doing the rounds everyday on TV. Only some of it though.
Keep it real guys. TG and 5G would be great benchmarks for production and popularity, but we would love to see you guys do your own thing.
Good work for a pilot production. I'm sure it can only get better from here.
Welcome to TBhp, Team OD :D
Overdrive is only magazine which i read every month(Have every issue of it with me), yeah i felt in past that it was getting biased towards certain manufacturers but things have improved quit a lot in past 1 year. what i like most about OD is that every article is to the point and quit informative even to a enthusiasts like us. i love ur track tests of car, but one thing missing from them it numbers, in track test you guys should provive more nos like every cars lap times, or times in certain sections.
I haven't seen TV episode yet so can't comment on that, will try to watch it on sunday.
Let's stick to the format specified below , will make reading our feedback much easier for the OD guys.
So how was the show (bouquets only)?
Quite good, miles ahead of any other auto show in India. Really liked the question and answer section with Sirish , very nicely explainedclap: although Sirish did make a slip when he described A DSG as a twin clutch manual but such slips are normal for a first-timer and I am no critic.
Never knew that Jackie Stewart designed the MMST.
Bertand and Shirin did quite a good job especially liked Bertand's description of how the BMW handled. Also quite liked the burnout at the end.
What were the things you did not like, any changes you would like to suggest (constructive criticism only ).
First things first, although we all want you to carve your own identity but still Top Gear should be the benchmark for you.
1.Avoid excessive use of a Narrator
Kartikeya is no Jeremy Clarkson at narration , moreover too much of narration and exterior shots do not make a good shootout, we already know how the car looks from the outside and too much narration makes it look like a boring description.
Instead in a shootout you must have each one of the four anchors having one car as their favourite and only the anchor associated with a particular car should talk about it, with the minimized use of a narrator only for informing the viewer about how the troupe progress or for representing common ideas.
2. Track coverage needs improvement
Greater track coverage in the show is required, you talked about the fact that the cars would be judged on the basis of their track times, but no such times were shown nor were the hot laps which should be done by a single undisclosed person. It looked like someone pressed the fast forward button and one reached the conclusion straightaway.
Also you should have atleast one camera angle that should not give an impression of speed , you could try placing a camera at C1. And I agree with techno that there was little description of the track itself.
3.We could have had a 30 second coverage of how the Quattro works alongwith details like torque split etc.
Verdict score out of 10
7/10(Considering that this was a pilot episode) A new beginning for auto shows in india and a step in the right direction although some teething problems need to be sorted out which if sorted would insure that one day we would have people putting up torrents of your show as well.
Great to have an auto mag interacting with the forum. Curious - is this one evangelist or an entire "PR" team that been tasked with watching this thread/forum ?
Thanks to one and all for the bouquets, comments, suggestions and brickbats. We are learning quite a few things already, so keep 'em coming guys.
@zenx- This isn't any PR paraphernalia but an initiative taken by the core edit team.
Regards,
Team OD.
So how was the show (bouquets only)?
Different. Not as interesting as I doubt if I ever would own any of these cars.
What were the things you did not like, any changes you would like to suggest (constructive criticism only ).
Suggestion: Spend more time on mass market cars (Indian) - I mean the the objects; subject should/could remain the same.
Verdict score out of 10
5/10
Welcome aboard Team OD. It's nice to have you on board. I am keen on watching the new episodes of the auto show that you have started with CNBC.
Also, how about having a writeup on Team BHP in May's snippet section?stupid:
