Hello bhpians,
Wasn't sure if this is right forum to post this thread but couldn't figure out where else it would fit.
Saw this post on another thread, which prompted a new discussion.

And, by the way, overdrive seems to be new partner for CNBC, autocar India seems to have logged out. |
OVERDRIVE magazine is the new partner of CNBC-TV18, hence the erstwhile Autocar Auto Show has been done away with and the new OVERDRIVE show is in place. The pilot episode has already been telecasted last Tuesday at 6.30 PM but given the timings not many would have caught it on air.
The show has radically changed in more ways than just in name, the benchmark for the show now isn't any other auto show on Indian television but internationally acclaimed shows like Fifth Gear and Top Gear- catering to the true enthusiasts not unlike us. Needless to say it will take time to reach those standards given the infrastructure available with us, and the level of audience maturity, but that is no reason to do the best we can.
Well, enough said, we would sincerely like the bhpians to give it a go for themselves and see if it matches up to what they expect from an auto show. Please give your valuable feedback via this thread, for this episode and as well as the show in general anytime you happen to catch it, as it will help us figuring out where we are going wrong, much sooner than we can figure it out for ourselves.
Repeat telecast of the show is on Saturday 1.00 PM and Sunday 8.30 PM.
P.S. The pilot episode is a track test of four executive saloons at the MMST.
Waiting for bhpians' feedback.
Best Regards,
Team OD.
EDIT : Updated/corrected timings :
Tuesday- 6.30 PM
Saturday- 1.00 PM and 8.30 PM
Sunday- 12.30 PM
Thats awsome news ,,,, OD is doing good job ,, i also notice OD Mag quality is also improving
Keep it up
Note from Mod - Please use proper punctuation. Thanks.
Team OD,
How about posting an introduction of youself first in the Introduce Youself section ?
I think the name says it all- Team OD- most probably a member of the team that produces the show/mag.
welcome aboard dude, and I must say, OD mag has really improved of late- no more a legacy of AJD
the himalayan oddessy in the premium SUVs was mind blowing stuff.
coming back to the topic, I did manage to see the show on CNBC.
Shereen Bhan was great as usual :D
as regards the presenters, a couple of observations:
bert was really good and very articulate.
Sirish needs to work a bit on his camera presence- he was just too conscious of being on TV!
also, you guys need to improve your driving skills- seriously, the drifts in the 5 series were quite amateurish and one could easily make out when you stopped having fun and lost control of the cars.
please dont mind these comments- this is meant to be constructive criticism :)
also, for what its worth, i think your pilot episode was streets ahead of the Auto Show. keep it up guys and keep improving and pls dont try to ape the international show- develop an identity o fyour own.
the track tests should be a regular feature with timed laps for all the cars that you test.

You got it. An intro wouldn't suffice, as I am posting here, on t-bhp, on behalf of my entire team and not as an individual.
@himanshugoswami- Your points taken. When we say that benchmarks are 5G and TG, we don't mean to ape them but provide something as exciting and engrossing as the aforementioned shows to Indian viewers. Surely the cars that these British shows get to test is half the job done, we'll have to do our best with whatever is available here.
We also wish that we can track test each car on the market and end some raging debates about their on-track credentials, providing a reference point to the Indian buyer who is looking for more than just FE from his car. But sadly, we don't have tracks spread throughout the country unlike UK, making it quite a task, logistically, to test each car around the MMST. Still we will ensure that "special"
(purview of which is growing in India, faster than one thinks
) vehicles are given a chance to slice the apexes and thunder down the MMST straight.
Please keep your comments flowing in as they are highly valued by our entire team.
Best Regards,
Team OD.
P.S. If bhpians wish to comment on any aspect of the mag I guess this is the best place to put it down. I know there are quite a few threads on that including some polls but let us make this an exclusive for OD, if possible.
Its time our auto shows come of age.. This is a good move moving away from showing cars from diff camera angles and talking about the features, track testing the car should be the ultimate bench mark! More over test the features a particular car is claiming.. Nice move hope it only gets better form here!
Who's the 'stig'? :D

Welcome aboard, Team OD. Its great to hear you talking about a car show geared toward enthusiasts! There's a dire need to have a car show where the anchors actually know what they are talking about, and speak beyond the corporate brochures. Throw in the awesome track tests, and you have us glued to the tube!
Will check out the repeats this weekend and update.

Welcome to TBHP.
We need a change in thread title to make this thread get more attention.
Welcome to t-bhp OD. I stopped reading The OD mag as it was getting too biased! Hope your show does not go the same way.
P.S; Will miss the autocar show. But even its quality was going downhill.
Hi Team OD,
I guess we need to evolve a lot more in terms of the show and the magazine - it will take time to discover the real Indian car show/magazine -
And believe me we all read the auto magazines - the other thread is discussing Dilip Bam and his reviews - you guys can read it - lot of us remember articles /quotes from 1990s..
These days - as you will read in this forum, many believe auto shows / magazines don't address them - it does not leave you enthused about cars/bikes /modification
Hope OD does a good job - give us real reviews - and not the corporate advertisements - and tips and we all will be a happier lot as subscribers
RD
Finally, some action on the Indian TV. Good going.

Thanks for the welcome. Thats exactly what we have in mind.. a show for the enthusiast, packed with action, rather than describing a clear-lens tail lamp on a stationary car from ten angles for five minutes. The pilot episode should give the viewers a clue about what we intend to do.

When was the last time you read one of our issues?? Can you point any instances (in recent times, of course) were a test appeared biased? It will sincerely help a lot. And I'm sure you will not miss the erstwhile Auto Show once you give the OVERDRIVE show a go.

We are aware of Dilip Bam and his peculiar style, but as you would have noticed even internationally, respected magazines don't use colloquial language as far as possible, (Barring the odd tuning magazines, of course)
as the overall quality of the magazine is judged by the quality of English used. Hence, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to incorporate writing style similar to Dilip Bam's in present times.
We want to provide maximum value to our readers and are working hard at that- giving the real deal.
Can we have the show and its repeat telecasts timings ?
All times are GMT +5.5. The time now is 18:05. | |
