While the recent Maruti ad showing a person giving a lift to a stranger on a highway because the stranger "has to be home for Diwali" is all nice and senti etc., how many of us would give a lift to a stranger on a highway?

Yes
No
Maybe

Lift on Highway - No Way.

Lift to a stranger on a highway? No way unless a family with kids is stranded on highway due to car failure or something like that.

NO, rare exceptions.

No way. Especially after seeing RGV's Road many years ago. :)

Recently on a road trip in Ireland, my friend offered lift to a guy on a remote country road. The rest of the whole trip I sat in the front seat facing the guy in the back making small talk. The actual reason was I could NOT sit relaxed facing the windscreen after he got in.:).
My Irish friend who was driving was surprised when I told him not to do that again. And moreover the hitchhiker was drunk, not drunk drunk, but smelly drunk. But then it is Ireland.Drunk is not the right word.

No. Never. Not on the highway and not even on the roads. Heard of enough car-jacking incidents, especially near my place.

No but with exceptions.

Only one instance so far, I gave lift to a Reliance Pump Employee from Ichchapuram to Berhampur BP (about 17km) during my Kolkata drive.

Abhi

No way. It is actually one sort of Non legal or self made rule that one is not suppossed to give lift to anyone. I would rather wait and try to help someone standard on the highway because of the problem in their vehicle, but not lift.

O.T. but then what happens in Anaconda when a they give a lift to others, Road ( used to launch Safari ) is another movie that sets example.

Same here. Absolutely no lifts to strangers hitch hiking on the highway! As for stranded family with kids on a highway, can be an exception.

Not on the highway ever. My answer would have been 'May be' if the question was related to driving within the city

In case of accident and some other special cases like old age ,then we can , else no lift on highway.

My answer is mostly NO. The only exceptions I have ever made are police constables - all of them have always requested very politely and thanked profusely at the end of their journey.

Mummy told me not to talk to strangers. I have extended that rule to giving lifts. Not just highways, even on city streets. Strict no-no. If its a pretty young girl, maybe..... :D

I did, to a couple with a few month's old sleeping baby on tow, but it wasn't a highway as such, enroute Anshi from Dandeli. The car broke down, their driver was left to take care of it, and we dropped them home in Ulupi taking a detour of 5kms.
