The greatness of Rajni sir lies in the fact that he is still his original, humble self.
I have heard that he moves around in no make-up/getup and interacts with his fans the very same way he looks in real- just as he looks in the second pic that you posted Sam sir.
And still his popularity amongst his fans is unmarred.

I don't think even the Shahenshah or Badshah of Bollywood can get away with doing the same.

Especially because you mentioned about Priyadarshan doing a good job up north. The movies he remakes today in Hindi, were stuff that were enjoyed by us in better form down South many decades ago, which should make it clear.

I grew up in West, North and NE India - and this assessment is after experiencing the quality of movies all over India. So this is no regional jingoism.

Well I don't think so. Quite a few movies down south are remakes of very popular Bollywood stuff. We could go on and on - to each his own.

But I should know (there is a strong reason) - there is crap that is made down south. But I enjoy watching all movies - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu - all.

And yes Navin, you sure are underestimating the aura of Rajnikant. :)

For a fact I know Rajini's (or Rajni) popularity cuts across the socio-economic-politic-whatnot divisions, mainly due to his humbleness and aproach to life.

Sam sir, you have taken much more time than your dead-line for completing your experience (I wouldnt actually want to call it a story but since Iam not getting a suitable word now, will continue with story). While the discussions can flow around Rajini and Tom Yum soup, please complete your story.

Frankly, Kamal Hasan and Rajnikant are demi Gods down South with lakhs of people behind them. I remember that when Sivaji was to be released, the news channels reported that the bookings were closed weeks before its release and that was the situtation for months! It seems these two cannot do anything wrong. Of the two, Rajni is a bigger star(?).
