I have already made that commitment!
Me, only one kid, i.e. daughter. However, I don't suggest one kid for everyone. May be 30% parents having one kid and 70% having two kids would be ideal if we target to reduce the population in the next 50 years or so.

I'm still shocked to see that highly educated, highly qualified professionals demand dowry, in material and cash, even today, this in spite of the girl being highly qualified and earning. That is rotten India. I hate some things to the core. And I hate the girl or parents even more for falling for such cheap and demanding grooms.

Ummm, not really. For instance, do a journey in a Mumbai local train during work hours. See how many people down packets of gutkha. And then we all know where that ends up. Same people who trade worth millions on their Blackberrys, but are uneducated to know not to spit in public?

I have realised, that as a country we have no respect for our natural resources. Especially in urban India. People are too busy trying to earn a living. Our rich cultural heritage will not save us when we run out of clean water to drink.

Grooms going with their parents on such things should be blamed. They need to stop such demands atleast if not initiating steps to equally divide all the expenses incurred.

What part of my statement came out WITHOUT thinking?
Is it rocket science to figure that the tax money is being wasted? What are the THINKING people saying? 6 decades after independence we've become a great nation? Its a no-brainer that the @%$#@%$#% on top are eating MY money (i don't care whether they're eating your money). I pay my tax NOT just for myself. Its for the community. Its also for the hapless non tax paying class of people....and DEFINITELY NOT for that @%$@%$@%'s italian marble flooring.

Why do we still have schools with no proper shelter, benches, desks and blackboards? Where do you think the education cess we pay is going?
Why do we all complain about bad roads? Do we pay Road tax or GUTTER tax?

Get the drift?

Everybody thinks. It all depends on WHAT they think.

Again, you are stuck in your narrow p---ed off thought process.

Take a drag, a deep breath, a whatever and then read what I'll write below.

That was MY tax money. It was wasted. Period.
Now, we don't need a Wren and Martin to tell you that there is a difference between the government having alot of money (the extent of tax evasion among small businesses is humongous - even many would be teambhpians) and the fact that it is squandered away.

Yes, the government wastes the money - by letting contractors build substandard roads without surfacing, an iota of gradient or the thing they call storm drains. But it DOESNT change the fact that the government isn't swimming in cash.

India is a BIG country with BIGGER problems. Is this that mystical?

You're right.
Some people are definitely stuck in their P---ED off thought process. Because they are definitely worried about what's happening. Whatever BIGGER problems your BIGGER brain can think of, if we let @#$@%@%%$ rule us and eat our money and make us pay more and more every year as tax, the schools will remain without black-boards, roads will remain like this.

Govt may not be swimming in cash...but Govt officials definitely are. Does it make a difference to me? NO.

What kind of Govt can waste crores of rupees every year and at the end of the year say "Roads? We don't have money. Schools? We don't have money. Infrastructure? We don't have money." ?

We have crores of rupees to give to cricketers (just an example)....but no money for basic stuff. Beats me!!!

Sorry, I'm stuck in my P---ED off thought process....coz' the mere thought of some people P---ES me off.
BTW, we are a great country so proud of our "Tradition & Culture", we take great pride in being ruled by goondas and criminals.

ok. Having gotten the obvious out of the way, can we get back on topic?

This isnt a corrupt government but a "what do we do with this humongous indian population" thread.

No offence, but we can start the "Indian Government is evil" thread separately.

What do you wish to add with the topic on hand?

Biju,

As far as I know Indian law does not permit adoption of a child if you already have a child. And the rates for adoption of a child runs into at least 3-4k dollars. Yes, the rates are in $. And it is not at all easy.

Dude, all this talk of rich cultural heritage didn't help you buy your RedMM340, did it? You bought into the dream of an AMERICAN JEEP, not an Indian chariot or vaahan. And you bought it with money, not with cultural currency. So let's not go there.

Sure, India has its share of problems, and what country does not? But I refuse to join in the chorus of western countries denigrating our past, present, and future.
We have 10 times the problems that any other country has. And I refer to countries aiming to take their place on the global stage as leaders, not Bangladesh.

Have you ever attended a TBHP meet? A lot of members will smoke cigarettes and throw the butts away onto the road. They will drink out of PET bottles and do the same, and the same for packets of food. And we're all educated and in a rather high per capita income group.

You need to study Chinese history in a bit. The Red Revolution and the human rights abuses then and now in China, is nothing like India.
Neither is their progress, their cities, their standard of living, their standing amongst citizens of the world, their Olympic haul.

Lol, dude, which world are you in? China has a standing army of 2.3 million, as against 1.4 million in India, 2300 combat aircraft against our 1400. We'll be annihilated.

You can adopt. But the child has to be of a different sex from your previous adopted child, if any.

You are right and I stand corrected. I also confirmed this from Central Adoption Resource Agency - and the rules are different for Hindus and others (because of the Personal Laws of other religions).

@v1p3r, gooood points there. keep them coming.

I had planned to tell RedMM340 that 'I hope his information about the Chinese army is correct'. But v1p3r has conclusively negated any requirement for me to say anything on that subject now.

We all also know how much of our effort & resources is being pushed towards weapons development, the first step of which is to negate the help China is giving to a neighbor. If we are taking so much effort just for this, imagine the effect of a direct confrontation. Not even considering the element of surprise.

@RedMM340, would you have any information on what % of money meant for our forces is being siphoned off ?

Just in case it has been missed out, it's not that we -v1p3r, myself, others - are pessimistic, or see no hope for ourselves & our forces. We all know we have problems on hand. Let's acknowledge that. I'm referring to the forces & the corruption there, whenever politicians step in into the normal functioning of what is otherwise a valiant, honest force.

Solution is Pill 72 if you made a mistake while having fun. If Pill 72 was not taken and after 1 month, there is a potential for an addition to the world's population, take Mifepristone and misepristol.

A Child, is not a mistake.
A Life, is not a problem to be solved.

Dear Sirs,

1945 called. The nukes have been invented.

For a good part of 20th century [50 years, to be precise] United States and Soviet Russia were on the brink of a war. By some estimates, US was half of Soviet's might and this detail was paraded in media quite frequently.

The war never happened. Soviet World collapsed in the 90s. We all know this story.

The war never happened because of nukes. You see, 1 Nuke equals 10 nukes. 10 Nukes equals 1000. It doesn't matter how many you got as long as you got one.

This is the reason Israel still exists, good sir. Inspite of Iran's threats. Inspits of 6-days-war and what-nots from the islamic world.

They got Nukes, you see.

India and China will never have a full-out war. No two Nuke-possessing countries will ever-ever - I repeat- ever have a full blown war now.

War will be fought by proxies, and economics. And ofcourse by creating internal issues.

Why fight, when you can fund the CPM :-) [or Mamta ?]
