How to get American channels on TV

Is it possible to subscribe to American channels in India?

In the states you can subscribe to Indian channels from DishTV, they have a package of 15 Indian channels I believe.

So I am guessing this is possible to do in India also. If anyone has info/advice or suggestions please contribute.

You can get channels only if there is a satellite beaming those channels over India. I don't think thats the case right now.

In any case, I dont think that I&B ministry will allow the signal from such channels to be accessed freely across India. After all there is strict policing of channels that are currently "officially" available also.

There are ways to receive certain European channels if you are in the North and North-West region of the country where there is a footprint of European Satellites. In Delhi also, you can get a ku band dish and access HotBird satellites and use a special receiver known as a DreamBox and gain access to over 1800 channels. Yes they are illegal for sure but only as illegal as it it to keep and view adult material. No one is concerned about it as long as you don't start distributing these channels on cable and don't allow public viewing of the same. I have some reports from people in as far off places as Bangalore and Mumbai who have successfully tuned their dishes and are getting uninterrupted feeds for HotBird channels.

@Sumit are these ku band dishes normally available alongwith the dream box or there are some exclusive shops for them? Can you give some more details?

HotBird is a series satellites which carry DTH packages of Europe. These packages carry adult channels. You can get a list of channels on each satellite from LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite

Get the Sling Box, but for this you need the box to be attached to a STB in the states.
I used to use this in the states when i had an extremely boring class, open the laptop and watch TV via the sling box attached in my apt

Check out these links for more info:

Wow that's awesome, I have Time Warner(comcast) cable right now, so all you do is connect it to the set top box?

How is the picture and transmission quality?

Picture quality is very good, but if your internet speed is slow it gets choppy.
