Invetsment gift for newly born child: What are the Options?

Friends,

My sister gave birth to a beautiful girl child today and as a gift I was planning to give my newly born niece an investment gift that would be of 'wealth creation' nature.

IMHO, items like gold, money etc, though considered auspicious, are not what I am looking at.

What are the possible options I have (assuming a one time payment)?

Are there any investment/financial instruments that I can buy in her name that would mature in the next 15-20 years and serve the purpose of wealth creation?
