Hi,
Speaking of key chains i remember my mechanic advised me against having heavy key chains for car keys.According to him the weight of heavy key chain will weigh down on the key and cause all the edges & grooves of the key to smoothen out.

I have noticed such old keys with its teeths all smoothened out due to use.If the key become even my mechanic said it becomes easier to steal the car as it no longer needs a key to turn on the ignition. All one has to do is to use a thin blade and that will be as good as the key itslef.

Dunno if it's true or not but i stopped using heavy keychains for my car keys.

buddy, that sounds totally illogical to me! keys wear out due to rash usage not a heavy keychain pulling on it!
Ok let me try and explain this, if you had to file off a sharp edge you would require to rub it against the file, merely pressing against it will not remove any material off the workpiece no matter how much force you use. Hence the key being pulled down by the heavy keychain will not erode due to being pressed against the levers and the walls of the lock but being rubbed and ground when turning while its not exactly in tyhe location it should be or a faulty lock/key , etc, etc.
