what is the deal with all these anti Korea BS?

I am a Korean male living in Suwon, Korea.
I am planning my third trip to Inida this fall. I was searching for some rent car places in India, and accidently stumbled into this forum, and hugely disappointed at Indian people. What is the deal with anti Hyundai and anti Korea attitude here? What the hell did Korean people do to you to deserve all these mockery?
Hasn't Hyundai been great toward India and its people?
Selling good modern cars with good services?
What the hell do you mean by Hyudai looks awfully "Korean"and "crappy Korean technology"? what kind of insult is that?
In case you forgot, South Korea is one of the few industrialized nations in Asia, and it has the second highest overall technology development in Asia(Hyundai being 5th largest automobile maker in the world, one of the largest ship manufacturing companies in the world).
Before you make fun of Korean automobiles or technology, I ask you politely to look at yourself. Has anyone here even been to Korea before you treat us like a poor third world nation?
Koreans love India. Hundreds of thousands of Korean college students visit India each year because we think India is a beautiful and fascinating place. Indian restaurants pop up everywhere in Korea and there are thousands of Indian workers move to Korea, to work with us side by side. I even joined an Indian film fan club last week since I wanted to know more about Indian culture...

I am hugely disappointed at your attitude...

not every one hates korean products, no one has anything against koreans here.

and only a few products like cars arent liked, apart from that consumer goods makers like samsung and lg are very respected here in india.

i for one an am avid hyundai fan, they do have some faults but i can over look them.

take care

Hi there...
I feel you are generally over-reacting to the situation..I have nver heard anybody in person all my life who hates Koreans or Korea...as you say there is no reason to!
as for team-bhp, there may be some anti-Hyundai comments that you have read but thats not anti-Korean and many people like to slag off a certain company/person/nation for the heck of it. Also there are some valid reasons as to why people dislike the same..

I personally do not like any product made by Hyundai in India but doesnt mean I hate them or Koreans......thats being very stereotypical.
As aadix says, the consumer electronics sector is taken over by Korean companies here and although they had bad reputations earlier now they lead the way in everything.
I myself have bcome a big fan of LG products in recent times !

hi aadix,
I agree not all of you guys are anti Korea, Hyundai.
but there are some of you guys who sound like some rich white American guys making fun of a less fortunate country, just like some of my American friends make fun of Chinese or Mexican products.

Dude

While I agree that there is a section of people who are still not convinced by Korean technology, I would like to think that it is because they havent experienced it first hand. I have, and I like Hyundai products because they give me more complete experience.

Moreover, bear in mind that some people like to look at automobiles in 'parts' - i.e., some like good engines, while some want good handling and others want good back-seat room. Korean cars, in my experience, do not excel in any one single aspect but are right up there in the top slot for ALL aspects. Therefore, people who like to quote 0-100 times are understandably not taken up with those cars.

Make one supercar and that should change notions drastically, even if many people dont buy that supercar. A case in point here is Fiat which made one really exciting car with which it created quite a lot of interest. Its another matter that the entire model range didnt do very well, and the sales of that one specific model are a fraction of whatever Fiat did sell.

Hype is important, sometimes. That is one thing you Koreans have to learn.

1. There arent any rich white american guys amongst us.

2. People might make fun of Chinese products but they buy them anyway - only when they carry another badge...

hey you need to read about the stuff we write about the cars we make in india, its nothing personal against the korean people its mostly hyundai..a few of us have stong opinions about their cars, its the same with the cars we make here in india (tata)..that does'nt mean we have a problem with indians.
you need to read the stuff more objectively and not in a generalised manner...welcome...you are most probably going to hear a lot more stuff you dont like on this forum, but we mean no dis respect to the korean people.

hi, korea, welcome to team-bhp.. do post an intro of yourself in the "INTRODUCE" section in this forum.

and hey, man, like you and the others said- we don't hate; no, that's too strong a word; dislike, korea, koreans, or their products. in fact, like someone mentioned before, it's the koreans that are leading the way here in some areas.....

but hey, man... we just don't criticize hyundai- we also smear the faces of GM, ford, mitsubishi, and sometimes even ferrari, mercedes and toyotas, too!!!

basically, we express our opinions on the products- not the country it's from, or their people.

but just so you know, hyundai is one of the top companies here, and one of the highest selling automotive manufacturer in india today. and also, i, personally, like hyundai too. it's just that some of their products are, well, not to my tastes, per se (like the santro).

b.t.w, hyundai does make some of the coolest cars in the world-like the tiburon, the accent wrc, etc., both of which are on almost all team-bhpian's wish list...

so, i guess what i'm trying to say is, india is just like what you expected it to be- a nice country with warm people; just like you. but i guess you got the wrong first impression of us- but don't worry, now that you're here, you'll get to know us all...

well, have a nice time on team bhp, and i hope you learn the true nature of us bhpians- we are not bound by race, creed, nationality, or looks; but by our love for cars(& bikes), and
we all follow just one religion- motorsport.

Hyundai's goal isn't to make a supercar. I am sure they have enough finances if they decide to built one in the future.
Hyundai CEO Chung has made it clear that they are not out to make hyped cars. They want to make reliable good cars for average Joes. I am sure everyone here knows that large corporations like Hyundai are very calculative. They don't make things that are not profitable. I am sure they have reasons for not making sports cars.
Hyundai is planning to launch a new line of luxury cars, with an European sounding name.
Check out the current Hyundai luxury car, Equus
http://www.hyundai-motor.com/common/...s/main_ui.html
and the new Grandeur
http://grandeur.hyundai-motor.com/

Hyundai is also is the largest shipbuilding company in the world, meaning they make those gigantic engines for ships. I doubt anyone can make fun of those ships.
http://english.hhi.co.kr/Promotion/Gallery.asp

and here is a small Korean Sportcar maker Proto
http://www.protomotors.com/renewal/s...gallery_01.htm

Koreans love sedans. Not sportscars. That is why they don't care for sportscars.
and remarks about some of you making Hyundai handling...
I used to drive a Saab 9000 and my wife's current Hyudai XG destroys my old Saab away in performance.

I wouldn't commnet on Hyundai, but on the contrary one of my colleague is S Korean (from Suwon too) & I'd like to say that he's a great guy with high morals & ethics, I'd say better than most in my office.

Hi Korea,
Welcome to this lovely site.
Indians as a country do not hate any Country and especially South Korea.
I like Korea for its products and people and there are so many indians like me.
So, Please drop the idea that Indians are hostile towards you.
I do not like certain Hyundai's products and that is about it.
I do not foresee buying a Santro or a Sonatta anytime.
I like Companies which manufacture latest technology products in India with Safety and environmental concerns in their corporate and product outlook and certainly Hyundai is not one such Company.
Trust me, Ship Building is fine. India has atleast 4 Naval Yards where we manufacture state of the Art battle Ships. But Not all indian products are world class. Got the Drift.
Mail us if you plan to visit India. I am certain, any of this site's members will entertain you with a Cold beer and a spicy Dinner.

dude,
if you are going to be a hyunai defender here , you are not going to have much fun on this forum..this is a forum for auto enthusiast..we like performance and sports cars...read our base line "redlining the automotive scene" if we were your avarge joe we wouldnt be doing that , would we?
i find most hyundai cars boring to drive, cant tweek the engine much and not very great looking. BUT most indians love it....but this might not be the place where you find those...the orange sports car is not that great looking either...looks like something our friend DC would have designed.
and not to mention hyundai's coging skills....sorry pal thats my opionion, you can defend it till the cows come home or accept it as my point of view.
a lot of us differ on many topics here, we have our own views on things.

Korea,

Welcome to Team-BHP. Totally understand how you feel but remember, Team-BHP doesn't represent all Indians, only a small community. Most of those who like to push the cars to the limit. Like you say, Hyundai products are very good for the average joe but for those remaining handful people it doesn't stir any emotion. Look at the sales figures of Hyundai in India & you'll realise that inspite of us ranting about Hyundai, they are doing quite well here. I'm sure none of us hate Korean people or have anything against them.

Btw, if you ask opinion about the Daewoo Matiz on this board, you'll be surprised to know how many of us loved it.

Enjoy your stay !

Cool down Korea! We are also proud of Korea being a fellow Asian country doing really good in the automobile world. But whatever comments you have seen here on Korean cars are based on that particular context and situation. May be some people might have exaggerated by genaralizing on Korean products. But I believe majority of Indians including people here at T-BHP have appreciated Hyundai and other Korean companies/products. Are you already in India?!
