King's Man

Streaming: Hotstar

Prequel to the Kingsman series, not in the league of the earlier Kingsman movies. I found it very slow, lot of melodrama. Ralph Fiennes plays a key role but looks quite old and wooden at times. The supporting cast was Okayish nothing great to write about. One time watch if you found the sequels worth watching.

Rating: 2.5/5

A Dog's Purpose - Disney Hotstar

A very cute story about a dog and the connection he has with his "human". Don't want to say more as it will spoil the story. Its not a masterpiece or intense or anything. Just a nice, light watch that is somehow very entertaining. For people who love their doggos, will put a tear in your eyes at times. Oh! and don't confuse this with A Dog's Journey Home. It's a totally different movie with a totally different story. Both are equally entertaining though.

Rating: 4 on 5

House of Gucci = 4.5 / 5 stars.

Love business movies, drama and real stories. This is all 3 combined into one. Superb movie on the Gucci story with excellent performances by Lady Gaga (what talent - a rare singer who can act), Al Pacino & Adam Driver.

Two gems from Netflix and both based on true stories:

1. The Forgotten Battle, based on a true story from the World War II and features a long forgotten battle. Fantastic cinematography and very good story telling, a very good watch.

2. The Siege of Jadotville, based on a true story which instantly reminded me of the Hindi movie Border. Almost a similar story but the treatment is different. Brilliant watch.

Rating: 4/5 for both movies.

Death on the Nile

Streaming: Hotstar

Based on Agatha Christie classic, I had already read the book and knew the plot, but wanted to see it on big screen. Also featured my favorite Gal Gadot. The plot has a twist at the end which is the real surprise. One time watch recommended for the beautiful Egypt capturing the pyramids, the Nile river etc. Acting wise every character had a role to play.

Did you watch it online? I am trying to find it for online streaming in India, without much luck. Judging from the trailers, reviews, and star cast, the movie looks to be an interesting one. I am a big admirer of autobiographical movies.

Am surprised you did not mention the cars used in that movie - all classics!

The Batman

Raw, gritty, edgy, dark, realistic, mysterious - similar to how the storyline arcs of the early 90s Batman comic books and graphic novels had evolved into. (being a huge fan and having read entire stories of the caped crusader)

Haunted and torn apart - Pattinson's Bruce & his alter ego both captured the mood of the movie almost flawlessly. Reeves has done a fantastic job capturing the Bat in his actual essence. The sociopathic storyline suited the dark knight perfectly. Kravitz gave Selina Kyle her best shot, but I thought the character actually didn't fit into the atmosphere of this film. I half-expected her to become a casualty by the last two-thirds. I am glad they made the Riddler so scary and influential, and the last scene in the Arkham Asylum gave away a big hint of what's to come should there be a sequel greenlit for this one. (Chalk my name up at #1 for that!)

A highlight which stands out - a short sequence inside a completely darkened hallway lit up only by sporadic machine gun fire, as the Bat ploughs through a bunch of goons.

A runtime of 176 minutes (nearly 3 hours!), out of which a full 10 minutes are the end credits, but I didn't move even an inch from my chair. After Burton's original two and Nolan's now-super famous sequel, I went into this with the least expectations, but I am happy to admit that I loved every bit of it. Rewatching it soon, very soon.

P.S. - if that background score reminded you of a certain theme made famous by a Star Wars character, don't be surprised!

:thumbs up good cars, man.

Also dropping a recommendation for "Wrath of Man" if you like action flicks and Jason Statham. Will give it 3.5 / 5 stars. Decent one-time watch on Prime Video (India).

Gerald's Game : 3.5/5

The movie revolves around a couple who seeks a restart of their married life.

Its a Psychological + Mystery + Survival movie with a splash of horror element.

It enjoyable for most parts, but felt little bit stretched some times.

The Great Raid on Netflix:

Decent war rescue flick to while away the time.

3/5

Taking Chance on Hotstar

Simple but a good TV movie (77mins), Kevin Bacon can act through his eyes. A true story about handing over soldier dead bodies to their families.

3.5/5 may be 4/5

Also from the same genre (not based on real events) with some comedy/comic action thrown in for good measure, can't recommend enough- Guy Ritchie's 'The man from U.N.C.L.E.':)

Spy Game - where is this available online? I had watched it years ago but lost the DVD. Want to watch it again.

Nightcrawlers -2014 Movie on Netflix

This movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo was nominated at Oscars for best original screenplay. After watching the movie, I can understand why.

Story of a down and out person who is trying to find a job to make a living. He happens to bump into a scenario where Stringers (Freelance Journalists) who shoot videos and sell to news agencies.

That gives me an idea to make a career out of it and starts shooting car accidents, violent crimes and how he grows in his career is gist of story.

Pretty unique storyline and gory to some extent but, worth the watch for Jake's acting. His poker face dialogue delivery is a pleasure to watch. And, some of dialogues and conversations between him and his "Employeee" are hilarious and made me laugh for a long time.:D

Inside Man

Streaming: Netflix

Saw this classic old time 2006 movie directed by Spike Lee & starring Clive Owen, Denzel Washington, Jodie foster, amazing performances by the actors. Well supported by William Dafoe and rest. The plot keeps your engaged even after so many years and having seen the movie umpteen times. Listening to a hindi song Chaiya Chaiya (A R Rehman genius) in the credit rolls during start and end was the cherry on the top. Recommend to see if this if you haven't already.
