I guess I am one of the very few who did not enjoy
Meiyazhagan . The overall premise was not an issue being a person who sees a lot of Malayalam cinema where such premises and slow pace are not new.
Felt Meiyazhagan to bee too long and dragged out at 2.40 hrs. If it was under 2 hours, it would have been more tolerable. Felt Karthi overacted and Arvind Swamy underacted their parts a bit too much. Some scenes dragged on and on way past their impact point.

However I noticed that the movie was set in 2016 and they have used quite a few objects from the past decade or two - 2000 rupee notes, old Nokia phones (including an N series one), old cars, buses and more. I wondered why and checked if the movie was shot earlier and then deferred but NO. It was shot in 2023 only. |
I think if they set it in the last 2 years, the core premise would have become even thinner and much less believable due to the much increased popularity of tools we have with respect to phone numbers.

it was a snoozefest for me as well, thanks to the forward option on OTT I was able to complete the viewing in a shorter time :)
Gaganachari (Malayalam, 2024, Streaming on Prime)
(“Gaganachari” - literal meaning “celestial traveler)
As avant-garde as a Malayalam movie has ever been, Gaganachari is a low budget dystopian sci-fi comedy rooted deep in Malayali milieu, folklore and pop-culture.
Inspirations all the way from Blade Runner to MCU to Rick & Morty run deep, and that low budget has forced the makers to dig deep into their weird, wacky imaginations. The dry wit keeps the movie going along with strong performances from Gokul Suresh and Ganesh Kumar. Don’t go in looking for a great story or meaning, this is just your everyday apocalypse survivor meeting alien and going through their daily lives.
There’s truly no other Indian movie like this one, and I hope more creators out there take note and make up such stuff!
Amaran - T - 3.5/5
Based on True story. Good watch and well made battle and army scenes which is the highlight. Sivakarthikeyan perfectly did justice to the role. Since it is a true story no much dramatic scripts on the personal storyline and Sai Pallavi went overboard sometimes. Well made tribute to the warrior.
Meiyazhagan 2024
9/10
I loved this film very much. Aravind Swamy and Karthi scenes were lovely to watch, brought a smile on my face. Reminds me a lot of IRL conversations with my friends. Climax reveal was cute.
Lubber pandhu 2024
8.5/10
Neat screenplay, dialogue and cast. Harish and Swasika did 10/10 for their role. Predictable plot and story line by never felt bore watching. This is how a films writing should be.
Watched Gaganachari and ARM on OTT and both have been disappointment for me.
I fail to see what the hype for Gaganachari was. There is no real story there and the science fiction part is just a backdrop. There is some very nice performances by Ganesh and Aju. Gokul was a tad irritating and Anarkali had nothing much to do despite being the female lead.
ARM is actually the bigger disappoint for me given the presence of bigger stars and having higher production values. Yes it is shot well, and the sets are good. But the story is the same nonsense that was dished out in several movies before. To their credit they wove in some backstory to make it more interesting. But in the end, the story is just an elaborate scam on the viewers. The script is so weak that they fail to "sell" the story. What saves the movie are the elaborate action sequences and performances of the main lead and villain. Looks like they had so much money to spend, but they should have spent more on getting some quality writer and director than wasting it on sets and CGI. It is no surprise that people watched it in theaters liked it more than people watching on their TVs.

The movie starts off good and holds you till halfway after which it just stretches like elastic. For a change Thailava Rajnikant acted well but looks lot more aged post Jailer. I am surprised to see a talented actor like Fahad Fasil do such small and insignificant roles, he deserves a lot meatier role. Manju Warrier had nothing to do in the movie except for one dance track. I expect this is to be Rajnikant's last mass movie, he should retire gracefully now.

What a bore fest this movie was. Everyone seems to be on the Rajamouli bandwagon of creating a cinematographic rich movies with no story content. Junior NTR was wasted in the movie I felt for playing this God like character. Jahnvi was not required in the movie at all but just had to be included. Its was funny to see Saif ali Khan mouthing Telugu dialogues. The movie can be given a miss. Was the part 2 event required at all?

The original movie was a cult comedy and one of my favourties, this one ruins the reputation built by the original. Hamming by main lead actors continously makes one want to press the stop button. Swapnil Joshi should stop thinking he is still the Chocolate boy hero. The story of the movie was so bad that it left a bitter taste in mouth.

Exactly my thoughts. The movie is quite breezy till the introduction of the main antagonist, and after that it is just run of the mill. The weighty subject of encounter killings needed a better vehicle than a Rajni mass movie. Rajni's character Athiyan moving from one end of the spectrum to another in the blink of an eye was unconvincing. Fahad's role was just to mouth some comedic lines as the hero's sidekick similar to what the late Vivek used to do with such aplomb. The role hardly suited Fahad's acting skills.
Caught up with quite a lot of movies in the last couple of weeks.
Meiyazhagan - Tamil
This was pretty good. A simple story with very good acting by both lead actors. Enjoyed watching this one.

Agathokakological - Malayalam
A decent thriller but not sure about the acting.
Rating - 3/5 (Manorama Max)
Lubber Pandhu - Tamil
Starts off quite well, but kind of drags midway. Expected storyline associated with sport dramas. Decent watch.

Sattam En Kaiyil - Tamil
Watchable thriller but slows midway.

Although this was decent, it had the potential to be better.

Interesting at first but then this thing messed up towards the end. It's a remake.

What the hell was this? That too from director Kamal. Tries to portray a social subject but was cringe loaded.

One of the better Marathi movies I have seen over the past months. I particularly liked the Who dunit genre movie as the plot was simple yet the treatment given was unlike the Marathi films which I had seen. The climax blew me of. Amruta Khanvilkar & Amey Wagh are the only known faces in the movie. Will recommend for sure

I expected a crime thriller for which I am a fan of Malayalam cinema. This movie did meet my expectations albeit a bit lesser but I liked the movie nevertheless as the climax was great. Again no known faces but still the movie keeps you gripped through the end. Worth a see.

Light comedy at the same time gives a hint about difficulties a police officer has to endure in his personal life.
-Very light hearted movie which getting a bit stretched in the middle
-All actors have done a good job. No weak links
-Everyone from Makeup Nani's family have same acting style(Bhargavi Narayan, Sudha Belawadi, Samyuktha Hornad and this time, its Teju Belawadi). Its like watching the same person across different age groups. But that is just me
-Overall a good one time watch
Vivekanandan Viralaanu - Malayalam - Prime Videos
One of the worst Malayalam movies I've watched, Ever !
Horrible story and acting. I would like to know what the heck the writer & director were smoking while they conceived this story. Also would like to see how the director convinced the producer to produce this movie.

I agree. I later checked online to confirm if Kamal is the director. I think they got motivated by the success of society related topics like How old are you, Kaathal etc and failed miserably.

The name does not in any way match to the film plot. The story was good and and keeps one engaged although there are distractions in the form of dance sequences and few comic situations thrown in but overall a watchable film. I am becoming a fan of Vijay Antony based on the few movies which I have seen. Riya Suman is a good actress althought havent seen any of her movies, she gets quite a meaty role in this one. Redin Kingsley wasnt at his best in the comic role. Over all a one time watch.
