| Survival of the Fittest - Must Read! This is an old one, but worth a second read nevertheless: Survival of the Fittest A recently concluded study conducted in the jungles and grasslands of Africa has put forward a remarkable theory on how the weakest members of a herd help the species evolve. It shows how the weakest members of a herd are the ones that fall prey to hunters in view of their inability to keep up with the herd - ensuring that the surviving members of the herd are made up of the strongest, thus helping to maintain the overall superiority of the herd. The herd therefore maintains its superiority through attrition. Now we all know that alcohol is bad for the brain. In much the same way as the herd discussed above, it is the weaker cells of the brain that fall prey to the evil influences of alcohol. Only the stronger cells are able survive our weekly (or daily/hourly, as the case may be) binges, thus helping to keep the brain in better shape by periodically cleaning out the useless ones.
