You can transfer the SIM to a cheap second hand phone to keep your work going.

Whenever you receive a call, or basically do anything with phone contents of onboard memory are modified to store call log or new SMS.

With each modification, chances of storage media being used in courts as evidence decreases.

Specifically, "EnCase" tool is accepted by courts for various financial and criminal proceedings.

But almost all such tools will not certify if storage has been modified significantly beyond the event.

IMHO there is nothing to worry. But in case if you want to be absolutely sure, stop using that phone right away.

Divert calls to a landline or another cell number till you arrange a different phone.

Thats was completely unnecessary. The girls must have been blind to think that you were taking pictures. Maybe you can put an insulation tape over the camera as a precaution.

@aaggoswami,

Whatever the misunderstanding was, it has been a thing of the past. Dont worry too much and just get on with Life. Life is never fair already, dont make it worse by adding unnecessary worries.

Show them your image gallery, if you dont have any pics in them, how can they accuse you of anything?

Forget it, it's no big deal. As for the women in your house, buy them a chilli/pepper spray. It's useful, very cheap these days, and more than anything, the girls/women in your house will be comfortable knowing that they can retaliate if some moron comes towards them and tries to do anything stupid.

I bought 5 "chilli guard" pepper sprays and gave them out to my mum, sis and gf. Not much of a difference in their behavior, but they know that they can protect themselves, in case if nobody is around to protect them.

@aagoswami, if the pics are not there, in the court of law it's their problem to prove the offence.

and the folks with pepper spray, please ensure you clearly explain to the women how to reach for it, how to use it, when/where to use it and how to keep it. there are places where it's not allowed.

I gave this to my wife too, but I was pretty confident she will scream and run like she used to regardless of whether she has a weapon or not.

Chill dude!

As long as you are not taking any voyeur kind of pictures, you have every right to take pictures of anything that is visible from a public place. The only catch is that you are not supposed to use the photos for any commercial purposes. You may use the photos for news though. Just search for 'Extreme Street Photography' in the net and you'd see where I am coming from. Thus, as far as a legal POV is concerned, you are safe.
I understand that if something had happened then and there, you wouldn't be able to do anything. But no one can touch you now, legally.

Did that already. Thanks for the advice. I have done that and by today evening I resumed using my phone as normal, thanks to courage given to me by this very thread.

I wanted to give complete explanation on how the phone was. I am also planning to put some insulation tape over the camera. Rediphone ( from where I bought the phone ) offered me lamination of phone for free of cost. There is thin plastic layer around the phone. I think I will put the insulation tape over the camera.
I dont intent to use the camera of this phone. Its for talking and listening to music when I am travelling alone or going in for my regular walk.

Yes, life is not always fair. I have got over it 50% by the time I type this.

I think the diagram put up by me shows how much disturbed by the incidence. Yes, I will be moving on. Nothing happened today and I hope its all but over.

By the time I was ready to give them my phone, the shop guy asked them to move downstairs. The girls were standing outside the door and then called the shop guy. They informed him that they doubt I was taking their photograph. He came to me, I told a firm NO. He informed them the same and asked them to go downstairs. I was too shocked by their question, so by the time I could offer my phone, they were downstairs.

If I had approached them afterwards, then they would have claimed that I deleted the images, so even more circus for me.

Yes, that is my right and I have not done any thing wrong. So there is no reason for me to worry.

That is a nice thing to do. I will be considering that. And I am in the process of forgetting this incidence.

Yes, that is my strength. Add to that, I have not taken their photographs at all. So theoretically, I am safe ( mostly ).
You are correct for the spray part.

Correct. I have the right and I am not guilty of anything. Its only the point of time ( when they raised an issue without surety to create a circus ) which was very tense and intense.

Nothing had happened at that time, so I am safe now.

@all :

Thanks for the support and all the help you have offered till now. The posts plays an important role for coming out and dealing with this issue.
I was just too disturbed and worried about this.
Right now, I am filled with confidence as I have done nothing wrong.

All I can say is this TBHP ROCKS.

I will keep the thread updated if anything happens. Today there were no incidences as I had thought or rather imagined ( like horror day dreams ).

I still suggest that if any one buys a camera phone, if possible try the best to have a camera phone with shutter.

Am glad you are relaxed and no longer worried about this.

Dude have you considered going to an eye specialist? That eye doesn't look too healthy to me.

if I were in your place, I would just laugh out loudly and say ' I better take my kaamwali's pic then your's' and then get back to the game.

The more nervous your get and the more attention you give to the trouble, the more it clings on to you.

Sympathy's always go to the girl, but wits should save you. You can't be calm and composed if you are guilty and you shouldnt worry if you are not.

Yes, initially I was shocked and later on thought how can this damn thing can even come up. If it came up, what extent of damage can it do to me.
It was useless worry, plus I always think too much in negative direction.

Time for a change!

Yes, my eyes are not good. I am banking upon Yoga for the same and off late I am able to see that my degradation of vision has reduced.
I have mentioned that I am not a good night driver due to my eyes.

But sameer, its damn good observation, you have got a great vision!

You are absolutely spot on. But it was the shock that ripped my common sense. And the girls did not approach me straight. They went out of the shop and then were standing just outside the door. This again indicate that they were not damn sure about me taking shots.

Then again after the shock, my usual negative thinking came and so did this thread.

But I am not more aware even when using phone.

I will take this as a learning experience to be more aware and conscious while using phone.

If it did go to the cops, your phone will be analyzed. Because Nokia (and Motorola) use the FAT file system, any files that have been deleted can be recovered as long as nothing else was written to the same sectors. There are also some timers that can be accessed on Motorola phones which reveal when the last picture was captured by the camera, how many have been taken etc etc. Anyway, provided you press for proper procedure, you'll be cleared handily. As long as you don't let the crowd take control, you should be fine.

Incidentally, a similar incident happened to me a few months ago. A friend of mine was about to get married and I had only seen his fiance's picture. My mom teaches in a prestigious women's college in the city and I had gone to pick her up after class. While waiting for her, I saw this girl with a friend who looked very much like my friend's fiance. They noticed my car (yeah, the Civic is still rather rare in TVM) and saw me pick up my phone to call my friend.

You can guess what happened. Basically, both me and her called him up at the same time. She, complaining that someone had taken a picture with a mobile and me asking him whether his fiance studies at this particular college. Thankfully, the misunderstanding was cleared up in a jiffy.

I always use my phone with a finger covering the camera lens.
