This is not a joke. I know 2 guys who have not been able to pass the SSC examination even after 3 attempts. Considering that I thought is was no point wasting more time and they should learn some trade so they can earn later. Now they have a passion for automobiles. So I was suggesting to them to do some course in Auto repair and join some dealership or service center. Any suggestions on what they should do?
Join politics. :D
They can also learn some trades such as machine operator. lathe operator at some ITI training centers. Such trades are in much demand in countries like Australia. :D
If they speak good English, they can even join a call center. Many in Bangalore without proper education, but good English communication skills, work at call centers.

I can take care of the Politics. They will however have to join the Party I am in. Australia is not an option. The options you mentioned are in demand in India too. However the pay is not much. But once they have enough experience, they can start something on their own.
Use "contacts" and get them a job as salesmen or technicians at car showrooms. Otherwise, if they can put up enough capital, start own business, whatever the latest craze is. Bartender also an option

Even with contacts, they need to be trained. Without training they may be able to do the salesman job. But then technician jobs are more easily found. Own business is an option for them only after they have a few years experience working for a reputed workshop. Their parents have ruled out the bartender option. So technician looks like the best option. What courses/training do they need for this.
AFAIK 10th (SSC) is a must to get into Polytechnic, ITI etc. So the only way out is to get trained as an apprentice.

If they seriously have a passion for automobiles, why not apprentice with a well known restorer or tuner? They can start from scratch and in time focus and specialise in the area of their preference. Skilled people are in real short supply. Like someone noted SSC pass is a minimum for ITI/Polytech course. Other skills could include mobile phone servicing, fabrication etc
ITI doesnt required it. As per my knowledge even 8th pass will do.

That's good. I'll tell them to check if there are any courses in Auto Repair. Then they can try for a job at a garage and later some tuner. Any suggestions on tuners who may employ and train them?
I think as everyone is suggesting ITI is a good option, other than that how about looking at the following
1. Manager @ small resturants (Bit of accounting skills and basic management skills and communication skills) experience might be required.
2. BOUNCER / GUARDS (If body shody and all)
3. DATA ENTRY operators (ESP regional languages and HINDI) Typing skills and MS OFFICE
4. MEDIA COURSES (technical, like camera, lights, production) - lots of scope in electronic media.
5....?
Petes distributor ,Green cotton or any other filters too.
Tyres distributors / Even a nitrogen filling stations would do ?
Alloy distributors
Real estate agents
Have a car/bike washing center .Professional ones .
Car accessories showroom .....

The option are wide open in India.
Only NCVT certified ITI courses require a SSC Pass , all other ITI certificates just have some kind of age barrier, so it would be better to just go ahead with that and get a job at some authorised service centre and move on from there, I know numerous people who have done the same. Many of these SSC failed guys are now cheif technicians in Honda, Hyundai, Maruti Etc.
best thing would be start some kinda workshop/business,etc. if it were me, i would rule out 'career/job' scene and do something on my own. i wish i had flunked my SSLC!
I have suffered from academic failures in my life.
10+2 is necessary. 10th is fundamental necessity. I know this from personal experience and can tell you that academic qualifications do affect our social life a lot. I have faced bad looks from many but never backed off. I am concluding that the guys you are talking about are backing off, but give one more final try.
