I need to send a 12-15mb pdf file through e-mail, so instead of trying to load it as an attachment (which most e-mails limit to 10 mb), i thought maybe i could upload it on some website and just e-mail the url.
Do you guys know of any reliable sites that allow pdf/file uploads without reduction in quality?

There are countless sites of this kind. Some people are smiling and nodding knowingly - seeing me post here.
Ideally, a very convenient way to email a file less than 100mb is

You could also use
http://www.sendspace.com, one of my favourites.
Apart from this, there is hotfile, rapidshare, megaupload. badongo, uploading and more. But these sites are kinder to premium customers.
The first two are kind to free users too.
For a first time user either yousendit or sendpsace is the easiest.
There are many file hosting sites who allow free hosting (limited space). I was aware of only a few like Rapidshare. In order to respond to your question I did a Wikipedia search, and found many more sites listed. I suggest you do the same and you will get a good list, some of which I've not heard but look useful and easy to use.
Do let us know which one you used and how it was.

This is the first time im having to mail such a big file so i've never used any of these upload sites.
Do all sites have similar upload speeds? Coz im on a 256kbps line.

Avoid.
Register for a free account from DropBox.com. Upload files easily and you can even configure it to sync some files from your PC(s) seamlessly across multiple PCs.
Once the file is up, you can get a link that anyone can use to download that file.
Unlike rapidshare/megaupload etc, there is no fancy credit card/waiting /premium BS going on at Dropbox. Been using it for a while, and am very satisfied!

Yousendit and DriveHq - i have used both and was quite ok with them.
Best option is to login into Microsoft account, login to iDrive, upload it there. Now you can not only share but can also keep it for future reference as well.

I would agree with Sam here. Although I have faced slightly reduced download speeds from SendSpace, as compared to Rapidshare.
Would not really recommend Megaupload, Fileshare, Uploading.to etc. Not only are they strict on free downloaders, these sites are also banned at many workplaces because they host a lot of objectionable files (porn, pirated stuff and the like).
For sending big files to clients etc in a professional setting, what service do Indian companies use? Lot of organizations have a 2MB limit of email attachments. So even if I am able to attach a bigger file, the recipient is not able to receive it.
I am willing to pay as long as the following criteria are satisfied
1) It's professional looking & secure
2) Receiving party should need a password to access the file - i.e. anyone with the right URL should not be able to access the file.
3) There should be a way for me to delete the file after the recipient has downloaded it.
4) The hosting company shouldn't be maintaining copies.
5) The files should be hosted in India so that it's faster to both upload and download.
I am flexible on requirement 2. Requirement 5 is preferable but if there is no alternative, then I can be flexible on that also.

Our company uses a self-hosted FTP Site. It checks most of the boxes except it is a bit slow at times.
Have seen other companies use paid services from Dropbox. Its pretty neatly setup, you get to create a login and it is shared only to folks whom you specify and you get notifications when there is any activity and you can set permissions too.
There is also an online storage space by LogMeIn. Check out this one:

Does dropbox require that the recipient install some software on his machine to get hold of the file?
No. It just requires a Dropbox account to be created to access the file.
