Plane crash in IRAN,169 feared dead

TEHRAN (Reuters) - A passenger aircraft crashed in northwestern Iran on Wednesday and up to 169 people on board were feared killed, ISNA news agency reported.

Quote:
"153 passengers along with 16 crew were on the plane that crashed," ISNA said, without giving a source.
Earlier Iranian state television said that all 150 people on board had been killed.

The Caspian Airlines aircraft was travelling from Tehran to Yerevan in Armenia when it came down at 11:33 a.m. (0703 GMT) near the city of Qazvin, the official IRNA news agency said.

Iran's English-language Press TV said in a scrolling news headline, "150 people on board crashed Iran plane believed dead".

A fire brigade official earlier told IRNA that everyone on board was killed. IRNA quoted an Iranian aviation spokesman a the plane crashed 16 minutes after take-off from the capital's Imam Khomeini International airport.

Another aircrash this year ,OMG.Certainly one of the worst years for the aviation history.

what can I say, are we becoming too casual about aviation guidelines?

very recently there was a news about air india overloading passengers and giving them spare seat in cockpit quite easy to hijack a plane I say.

Oh no. This is so bad.

A shot in the dark maybe. But would this be due to the recession with airlines making major cuts in expenditures. Overlooking certain critical aspects to lower costs.

Its very sad news. What is surprising is that this is, I think, second crash this year. An instrument so precise, how can it go wrong.
Is it that due to recession, cost cutting in maintenance is being done ?
Terrible to say the least.

Guys, some things to put in perspective. Iranian airplanes are world-renowned as creaky ancient machines desparately in need of maintenance. In fact, this is the first major crash with many fatalities, otherwise Iranian planes are reputed to be crash prone. These are Soviet-made planes- I think made in 60s or 70s. No Airbus or Boeing crash this.

Sorry. That'd be stupid no?
That's the easiest way to lose a plane worth 100-200 million USD, not to mention criminal liability lawsuits if malafide intention gets proven

Do the math. You're more at risk being hit by a wayward driver on the road in indian cities!

Chill yaar. This is such a load of crap. Our air defense is courtesy Soviet made systems. And FYI soviet engineering isn't half as bad as your post makes it out to be - when was the last time you read of Airbus' A350/B787 coordination hassles? Ask your armed forces friends no?

Those who want to read some details can go here:
Crash: Caspian Airlines T154 near Janat-Abad on Jul 15th 2009, impacted terrain and burst into flames
Iranian Aircraft Down 15/07/2009 - PPRuNe Forums for all kinda gossip and pilot perspective!

and read about heroics of pilots even in supposed advanced airlines like Emirates:
Emirates A345 Tail Strike Captain breaks his silence - PPRuNe Forums

sometimes its JUST human error:
One-Two-Go crash report released - PPRuNe Forums

Here is how another AF447 was averted:
Incident: Northwest A333 over East China Sea on Jun 23rd 2009, unreliable airspeed
FYI - that's the THIRD A330 incident of this type in the last 2 months. So its NOT the recession guys. Its sometimes technology, sometimes people!

Thats pretty shocking that we have had 3 deadly crashes in last 2 months and its scary.

But the problem with this crash is US sanctions on Iran and they cannot buy planes from anywhere except Russia and like someone already mentioned Russian passenger planes are nothing to be proud of.

Thats a pity that Iran is not even allowed to buy spares from US orsome other countries for their old planes and thats leading to poor maintenance.

And its not recession and a bit of US policies, outdated technology and rest is bad luck of deceased.

May their souls rip.
