Yeah, I think thats the last resort. 5K a month
However, there are 3 coaches in the gym and one of them is very helpful he helps me out personally though he is not a personal trainer.
Infact, he wrote the entire routine that i should follow on a card and I approach him when in doubt.
Weights/Aerobics/Upper/Lower etc.
For getting rid of my belly fat and to improve my general fitness levels , which is better : gym (cardio+weights) or swimming?
I am 5'7 and weigh about 72kgs.
Either or even both of them as long as you are consistent and regular.

I would vote for the former , simply because it would give faster results provided you keep a low carb, high protein diet.
I have got a diet which my trainer provided to me last year which made me lose a good 15 pounds . It is a tough diet though.
I am 175 cms and weigh 88 kilos(read obese, overweight). So i started exercising with brisk walk for half hour daily morning followed by 15 minutes of bending, push ups etc. So approx 45-50 mins daily. I started this regime 10 weeks ago and i have not lost even a single kilo!! :Frustrati
My diet is something like below( I am a vegetarian)
Breakfast -1.5 cups Oats followed by fruits or a veg sandwich at 11
Lunch- 1 Chapati, 1 cup rice,Dal/sambhar,curd ,1 cup curry and once in a week a sweet
Snacks - Light snacks like a plate of bhel puri
Dinner - 2 Chapati w/o oil, ghee and home made vegetable curry and a glass of butter-milk
Nothing has changed in my diet. Will indulge in outside food once or twice a month and thats it. Inspite of following this regime i am not able to shed my flab. Can any one tell me what i am doing wrong and what should i change?
Hi Sagar
I have reduced 9kgs in around 10 or 11 weeks.Here are a few pointers
*Hit the gym.You dont have a choice here sorry. And you need to lift weights AND do cardio and abs exercises.Lifting weights is VERY important. You need to bring your body into shape AS YOU reduce.Do some intense workout.
*No bread,no bhelpuri.Reduce rice to twice a week initially(I haven't eaten carbs for a VERY LONG TIME).Stay away from sweets.
*Start taking in protein.Supplement your low carb diet with a protein supplement.Start with 2 scoops a day.
*If you can spend the money, please hire a GOOD personal trainer. At the end of the day we are only investing in our own health.
Please feel free to reach me at any time.

Hey Avinash,
I've been in that situation. If the posture needs correction then you should try for the ideal weight you can lift with the corrected posture since different muscle groups are being involved. I hurt my back while trying to correct my posture and the trainer advised me to check the weights I'm lifting if there is any change of posture.
I would suggest against a personal trainer. Has its own advantages and disadvantages but post 3 months and letting go of 10k I think I could have done without.
Now I call the general trainer to assist me with the posture. He hangs around for a minute or two on my request to see if I'm doing it right or not.
I didn't have any doubt that it wouldn't be difficult to find a thread on Weight loss at TBHP; there is simply a thread for every reason and season. Found this when I was looking for a thread of body building (which I remembered seeing).
I'm on a weight loss regime now (just started), having a good mix of cardio and exercises to shed the flabby fat that I so carefully built over 30 years. Only when you perform these exercises does one realise the difficulty in trying to shed what was very easily earned.
One of the items in my nutrition plan is to try having a simple protein shake after the 1 hour and 15 minutes workout session. Through advice and research I've identified that Whey Isolate is the one to go for, which gives a high protein content and safe(r)?
Want to see if anyone can recommend a safe and good brand that I can purchase without much difficulty in B'lore (also open to buying online within India). Requirement is maximum protein in least calories added and also that it isn't extremely pricey.
Would prefer to try a smaller (starter) pack/box before going for those 4kgs boxes (if possible). Please understand your suggestions matter in helping someone's health choice so kindly make them using immense discretion. Thanks for your time. :)

Hello Kini,
After many years of piling up fat and sitting on the fence with starting a weight loss plan, I finally decided it is time and joined a gym last sunday. I have been given a good veggie diet/nutrition plan as well, to support the cardio and exercises + simple weights regime I've started with. In my breakfast, along with Oats and I've been allowed a veg sandwich made using 2 whole wheat bread slices but you say no bread. Did you mean white *maida* bread? Or is Bread a totally must avoid product?
And I agree with you. I've been explained why weight training is also important and how it aids weight loss and I totally agree with the requirement (of course, not the kind of intensive weight training body builders undergo).

Hey, I just started taking SSN 100 percent hardcore whey protein since the past 10 days. I take 1 scoop immediately after my workout.
I bought the 5lbs box for about 4.2k which has 74 servings total.
Before this is i tried ON whey standard protein for about 15-20 days.
You should get those smaller packs which have 10-15 servings and try them first and see which one you like.
My friends also said that Isopure protein is good so I'll be trying that after the current one gets over.
Guys, I have been working out since the last 10 months and now due to a major knee injury I won't be able to hit the gym for a month. Now what should I do to avoid piling up fat and losing my muscles?
I can't even walk properly right now so won't be able to do any exercises at home.
Can I continue taking whey protein without working out?

Thanks for your response. Have you heard of MuscleBlaze Whey Isolate? It doesn't have any carbs and only 119 cals which has 29gms of Protein. Good?

Stick to known brands. I would recommend isopure zero carb, it's a bit more pricey than the gold standard whey that everyone uses but it works well and tastes good.

Ok. didn't know Muscleblaze wasn't an established one.
Isopure is pricey for sure. For that price, why not Optimum Nutrition Platinum Hydro Whey? I'm still new to all this so would be happy to understand if a particular brand (Isopure) is better than another (ON Hydro Whey).
My main intent behind slowly bringing in supplement is just to increase direct protein intake and reduce carbs. In addition to this, my other main sources of protein are a glass of milk a day, peas in my boiled veggies and 2 boiled egg whites during lunch.
Thanks for any help.
Also, which is a good site to order these Whey proteins at a competetive price? Currently i'm looking at Healthkart.com. Any place in Bangalore which stocks most brands and sell at reasonable prices?
Edit: From quick comparo of IsoPure Zero Carb and ON Platinum Hydro Whey, IsoPure does seem to have lesser or no sugar and carbs than Hydro Whey. Am I right in my interpretation of the product's specs?
