Is it possible for members of the same family to have the same slot at passport seva Kendra for passport application/verification? Would be convenient for people whose family is applying for passport together.

At one time three applications could be done in a single reference/lot. I doubt if this system has changed.

Thanks so much - Just checked with the Visa point of Contact from my office, he says the only way is to book two time slots that are 10 minutes apart. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any info from the Passport website.

Few months ago I renewed my passport through online application.
Now I want to get a new passport for my five year old son. I was trying to use my login for filling out the details but few questions are irrelevant e.g. educational qualifications.
Am I doing it right or do I need to create a new online profile for my son? Kindly suggest.

I dont think so. I used my profile for my daughters passport and she's just 2. Check if there is a wrong DOB being passed

No this is not possible . For the child's passport you need to have both parent's passport no /passport application no . This is somewhat strange .

Not only that they may want to physically see both PPs as well. For our grandson the parents applied, and since my son was moving to Gurgaon he had his PP with him, though did my d-i-l did have a copy of the PP duly certified by him, the PSK in Mangalore insisted on his PP in original. When he went to Manipal then she took the PP to the PSK and was done in a jiffy. So they may want to see both the PPs physically.

Hi Guys,

I have completed my visit to the local PSK, Mumbai for renewing my passport. However, I just wanted to check one thing. I have got a mail which says – “This is to inform you that following Police Verification Request(s) have been initiated on Post-Verification basis for your Passport Application (Re-Issue Passport Issuance under Normal scheme)”. You are requested to get in touch with the respective Police Office(s) if verification is not done in three weeks.

I also got a SMS message saying – “Your Passport application file is sent to XXX Police station. Kindly visit within the next 3 days for Verification between 9-11am or 6-8pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm except Monday”. The funny thing is that I also got a message that my passport has been sent for dispatch via speed post.

My question is what documents do I need to carry when I go to the local police station? What does Post-Verification basis and Pre-Verification mean if I have to go to the Police station in both the cases?

Pre-Verification means the police would verify certain details and if satisfied then they would issue a police clearance after which the passport is issued.

In post-verification the passport is dispatched first and received by you and after which the customary police verification is done.

I think all you need to carry is some i.d proof when you go to police station. In my case they asked one witness and asked for her i.d as well but this was in 2011, i do not know if the rules have changed since then.

You will get passport before you get call/sms from police station. Police will require few more documents than what PSK requires. Carry all document with photocopies that you had submitted to PSK. In addition, they may require recent and old electricity bill, Property tax bill, letter from employer etc.

To save time, visit Photocopy shop near your police station and get forms required for police verification. Get signatures on witness form from your references.

However, above process is getting changed. You may have police constable visiting your house with a tab. He will type all info online. In this case, you need not have these forms with you.

In Preverification, as already pointed out, the passport is dispatched only after the verification is complete and the the report is clear. In Post verification, the passport is sent and the police verification is done later. However, in post verification, if the report is not clear, your passport will be declared invalid.

Ideally, you should get an sms from the police station with the documents you need to carry. If you dont, better carry all the originals (educational docs, 2-3 address proofs, experience letters etc.) along with a photo copy of each. You never know what they might ask for and you dont want to schedule another appointment just because a particular document was not available with you.

  1. All documents (+ photocopies) submitted to PSK
  2. NOC from Housing society
  3. Ration Card / Aadhar

I think this is required only if a person stays in a rented flat and not otherwise. If the flat is one's own, then this is not required AFAIK

It is required from all applicants. During verification interview at police station, requirement of NOC can be waived-off (E.g.: Usual case for minors or someone staying in independent house etc. Off-course if they get bribe).

Police's stance is, almost all documents can be faked so they don't rely on those. They have a weekly register of all society visits and they can cross-check NOCs during such visits.
