Hello All. I have a quick question regarding making a few changes in the name and would be grateful for any inputs.
My passport has my full name with surname (first name, two middle names and one surname) as my "Given name'.
Now my dad's full name (again his 4 names including surname) is in the "surname" field. Obviously our surnames are the same and they occur twice.
So in total there are 8 names and it becomes a pain when booking international tickets / visas as most of them have a character limit.
Now all my documents - mark sheets / aadhar / PAN etc all have only my four names (with the middle names abbreviated).
This time for my 3rd renewal I want to just put in only my true given names and put in only one surname in the surname field.
My father's full name is anyway there in the last page of the passport. I have all my documents to show that my name is only 4 names.
Question - will the PSK see the logic and accept it? Am not "changing" my name at all but just removing my dad's full name from the surname field in he passport. My dad's full name in the last page is untouched And I have all documents to show i go by this name only. Or will they ask gazette notification etc.
Thanks in advance.
Few questions as I have to renew my and my minor son's passport.
1. How can we both get appointment together?
2. For my son's passport, does my wife too need to be with us? Asking this since last time when it was to be applied for my younger one, and my wife alone went, they asked me to be there or she had to submit some affidavit.
3. How early should I book appointment if I plan to visit after April 16?

Yes you can make yours and son's passport during same visit. Few things to note
- Both your and your wife passport should have spouse name (at least one of you must have spouse name on passport since it is mandatory for kid's passport application)
- It is highly recommended that both parents be present. If due to some unavoidable circumstances, your wife is unable to accompany then you have to carry her original passport and affidavit (format is available on the passport website).
- Passport appointment can be booked online and you can check slot availability on the website for the PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) you plan to visit. You need to book individual appointment for yourself and your son. You should book it one after the other immediately so that you can get both appointment on same day and adjacent time slots.
- The process at the PSK would be like this. First they will process your application (issue token at counter A) and take your biometrics to generate application ID at counter B. Then you need to come back to counter A with your new application ID and get token for your son. Then his biometrics and application would be processed at counter B. After this, both of you would proceed to counter C for final step of verification by govt officials.
Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot Aviator. This helps a lot.
Btw one more issue I have encountered today. Tried to start a new application and got error as attached in pic. Seems one cannot submit more than 5 applications from single email account. I already have 5 submitted from 2019 to 2022 for my kids, wife and in laws.

You need to select the
Re-issue of Passport and not
Fresh Passport option.
Regarding the presence of your wife, although rules permit a single parent to accompany a minor, officials usually insist on both being present.
As for appointments, you can select the same time slots for both while booking. Your son and you can go in together for verification.

I think it'd better to create a new login ID in your case.
When filling application, there is an option called..
Is applicant eligible for Non-ECR category?*
If I was ECNR (or Non-ECR) always, will I still need any additional documents when I got physically?

No if previous passport is already in Non ECR category
How many sets of self attested photocopies are required at PSK? Under Upload Supporting Documents page, they mentioned two.

Generally they ask for one copy at the PSK but no harm in carrying two. In Bangalore Marathahalli PSK, they have a xerox machine near counter A, where you can get copies. But keep it as a last resort for emergency because it is usually crowded so you may lose time. Also remember to carry some lose change.
Hi all. I had applied for the renewal of my passport through Tatkaal category but at the passport office, they asked me to go through the normal route as my previous police verification system was not updated in the system.
The request was processed and the status currently is granted pending pre police verification. I wanted to check whether the police actually visit the residence? In the past few posts on previous pages, I am seeing the police just call to come to the police station with the documents (I would actually prefer this as I will be travelling after a few days and am wary of the cops coming to a locked house and giving a negative report).

In Bangalore, the police officer asks (sms) the person to visit the police station with supporting documents and photos. May be they are lazy or overloaded with applications !
You don't need to wait for them to visit your place if you are in a hurry. Once the status of application shows that file is sent to the police station, you can make a visit with required documents. That's what I have done for me and my family here in Blr (even before getting the sms from them) and it saved me days of waiting/anxiety. Hope this works in your city also.

Apparently, it does not work that way in Mumbai. :coldsweat
I visited the police station today morning and they stated that the police has to visit the premises first and they will give the list of documents required. I have to then take those documents and then go to the police station for verification. I sort of fail to understand why the second step cannot be done directly. Or why they cannot check the documents at home itself if they are anyway visiting.
Coincidentally I received an SMS few mins back from Maharashtra Police that some police personnel will visit within the next 3-4 days. Hoping they actually stick to that timeline.

We had quite a different experience in Bangalore.
Renewed wife's passport in Jan 2023. Passport got delivered in less than 24 hours. :Cheering:
The police officer came the next day (after the passport was already delivered). He asked for a few documents which were duly handed over.
No fuss, no muss.

I think it depends on case to case. I believe there was no address change in your wife's case and it was just a case of passport expiring soon? In such cases, the police verification is probably handled independently of passport issuance.
In my case, it was passport expiring plus change of address. To add to the complexity, the APO stated they dont see the police verification that was done when the last passport was issued a decade ago though I remember having done it.
