Spain seriously need to think about changing their style of play if they really want to progress in this WC.

They pass too much and are unable to breakdown defences of even the lowly Hondurans. Spain needs to use the wings more effectively and need to play faster and up the tempo, esp on counter attacks. If they progress to the 2nd round they are going to face either Brazil or Portugal and they are surely not going to give the Spanish midfield too much freedom.

Portugal had a field day massacring the Koreans. The Koreans IMO made a mistake by changing the effective strategy they used against the Brazilians. Sure it was negative but then that would have suited them more instead of an open game which gave Portugal the opportunity to dictate terms.

Chileans were positive from the outset and attacked with vigour but then they wasted too many clear cut chances which may come back to haunt them if there is a stalemate and it comes down to Goal Diff. I guess some of their players were selfish and went for direct shots on goal instead of passing it to a better placed teammate :Frustrati

The Spanish offense was really free-flowing after the half. Just like Por v DPRK. That penalty miss killed that momentum.

Torres has been missing very easy chances. Its all in his head.

Anyway its either Brazil or Portugal for Spain in the next round. If they can't find ways to hit the back of the net, they will automatically find the way to go home.

DPRK v Port - appreciated the way DPRK gave up the defensive approach in the 2nd half and wanted to try and equalize to keep alive whatever slim hopes they had - they were not content with keeping the score low in a loss. Sadly, the skill and talent level was just too wide to bridge.

I preferred to catch the France vs South Africa game over the Uruguay vs Mexico game.

Against the French, i wanted South Africa to win, and it was good to see them play with purpose and determination. They missed a couple of chances, which if they had converted, they would have progressed to the second round.

France looked clueless, as has been with all their outings in the 2010 World Cup, and i was not surprised to see them down by 2 goals by half time. Henry's inclusion lifted up their game, and they deserved the lone goal they managed to score.

Alberto Parreira and Domenech were seen in some kind of a discussion after the match with Domenech keeping his fingers to his lips and some sort of animations. Wonder what was going on.

Kerala is going nuts over Latin Teams. Look at this.

The Associated Press: World Cup kindles some quirky allegiances

Also got these images of Messi through a forwarded email. If he would stand for elections in Malabar, he is sure to win.

Yellow cards are being shown like it is nobodies business!
Question. If a player gets a yellow card, is it valid only for that game? Or will it automatically turn to a red card if he gets another yellow card in the next game?
Also, for how many games does a player have to sit out if he gets a red card?

2 yellow cards in consequtive games= miss the next game
2 yellow cards in the same game = out of this game and miss the next game
1 red card in the game = out of this game and miss the next game

YAY!! The cheaters are out.

The cheater's coach didnt want to shake hands with Alberto. Losers the whole lot of them.

I just hope the germans can put the last game fiasco behind and go through. It will really be very very sad if an illustrious record is tarnished and a talented team goes out early, while a few not so deserving ones still scrape through. What a tough group indeed!

I'm delighted. The Argentines are getting in the groove. To win handsomely even after making 7 changes to the 1st Eleven shows the kind of talent at Maradona's disposal.

I believe that the Argentines are yet to hit the top gear. I'm sure that Messi is going to dazzle in the coming games. It was fitting that Palermo coming back after being 10 years in the cold scored after coming on as a substitute. The brave Greek GK made some wonderful saves but the Argentines had too much class.

Greek tactics were perplexing. They had to win to progress but they played an ultra defensive game. They should have had Gekas in front to partner Samaras who fought for every ball and made some pacy runs to provide a few scares to the Argentinian defence.

In the 2nd round the Mexicans are a tricky opposition for them, I feel that they need to be vary of some solo efforts from Dos Santos & Franco who are a handy attacking pair.

The great thing for the Argentine squad is that the Coach is soaking up all the pressure and has been handling the media in his inimitable style leaving the players to concentrate on their game. For me he is the real star of this WC so far without playing a single minute clap:

Did not watch the S.Korea - Nigeria match but I felt that the Koreans were more worthy than the wasteful Nigerians to go through to the 2nd round.

France got what they deserved and South Africa though enterprising was not a better team than the eventual qualifiers Uruguay & Mexico.

The best thing in this WC is that ,the star players are not scoring.
They are infact becoming great play makers, giving excellent assists.

Messi,Kaka, Ronaldo...
All are playing a different beautiful game, than focusing on their individual goal count.

Quarterfinal time now............

List your favourites and combinations.

My dream final Spain Vs. Argentina, and Spain going on to lift the trophy.
If wishes were horses, I would be playing for India at the WC 2010 lol:.

We are to blame for the dismal state of Indian Football.

Just had a query about the standard of football being played at this world cup ? According to footballers Italia 90 was the most boring WC till date, However for me Italia 90 was the turning point as I started understanding the finer nuances of the game.

Your comments on the same ??? Preferably if you've seen Italia 90.

My favourite player then was Carlos Valderamma and favourite team was Colombia till they were ousted by Cameroon (Remember Higuita at the halfline jostling with Milla).

This time I have a feeling that Spain will repeat their European sucess in Africa. However with Portugal or Brazil in the next round it is not going to be easy.

Look out for the Uruguayans, they might spring a surprise.

England and USA through.

Waiting for the Germans to get on the field.

The US deserved to go through and that was some drama for Landon Donovan to score in the 90th minute. They had one goal disallowed in the Slovenia game and saw that they lost one today due to a dubious off side decision.

I feel that Germany will win today and the 2nd match between Australia & Serbia should be a cracker.

If England happens to face Germany in the 2nd round I expect the Germans to trounce them. The Englishmen are just not up to the mark.

The way England are playing, any team could trounce them. I'm sure Germany (if they qualify:D, I'm sure they will:thumbs up) will be more than happy to face England than USA in the next round.
