General perception is Jayasuriya fires even at this age, but seems to be thats not the case. Unfortunately the strike rate data is not available.

There is a slight error in the stats that you have posted. Sachins figures for 2007 actually read (while Sanat's remain the same as you have quoted):

25M 24I 2NO 1026R 100* 46.63Avg 1230B 83.41SR 1(100) 10(50) 3(0) 128(4s) 10(6s)

Source: Cricinfo.

Unfortunately there is a lot of general perception among general public (mostly false). Most of which is biased against fab 3. I think your stat has just proved that anyone can have a bad day. Yeah that includes master blaster Jayasurya too (man with highest SR among 10k+ runs). But what people don't understand is there is no use attempting an aggressive shot and getting out to it.

If Jayasurya had passed the initial blues like he who must not be named would have I am sure we would have seen an improvement on that SR. Btw Jayasurya's SR during the 30 matches was 92 while Sachin's was 84 upto the 25th match (similar to their career SR). There are no details available for the last 5 matches. But I think he has quite a similar SR if not better during the Eng series with SR dropping down in the last match. Same will hold good for Sanath too.

Hope our old man doesn't get bogged down tomorrow trying to beat the fine leg with his favorite paddle sweep
Btw, that is one of the most difficult shots to pull off in cricket. Because most often than not you are picking a ball that is either on the stumps or slightly outside off stump. And unlike Robin Uthappa he doesn't expose his stumps by coming down the track. That shot has had the best success rate against bowlers like Shane Warne, Bret Lee, Mcgrath etc. And world over players started to play this shot against the Warne after watching the India series back at home. But not many of them have had as much success of playing it as fine. Its a very effective shot.

Ok it might be difficult shot. But its really painful to see him trying against Hogg, Symonds & everybody, still failing to beat the fielder. Surely he can play in front and get the runs. What is the success percentage of that shot? Failure can be as embarrassing as losing your leg stump :uncontrol.

I bet its as painful to see Uthappa get down the track, expose his stumps so wide that you could maybe form another set of wickets to the left of the existing ones & still manage to miss the ball?

Cricinfo commentary says Sachin played the paddle sweep 4 times. Two of which resulted in boundaries. One of Bracken & the other of Hopes. Gave one dot ball to Hogg, and got out of the other due to a run out. And as far as my memory goes, he has had pretty successful rate with that shot in terms of not getting out. I think he has been out the most number of times caught in the covers. That doesn't mean you stop playing a cover drive. Or does it?

For tomorrows match, I would want India to drop Murali Kartick and get in Rohit/Dinesh. The wicket is a flat bed and full of runs - I would prefer a 7 th batsman rather than a 5th bowler.

But looking at the way our "safe" attacking captain is - he would not want to disturb a winning combination. Lets see.

The Baroda pitch is known for even play throughout the 100 overs with hardly in change in the playing surface the entire game (since its not a day/night). So sides batting first have won 3 games while those batting second have won 4. So one can call it even stevens. I think the team that loses the toss will win this match ;) . I think even this match will yield between 275-300 runs. I think we need better bowlers to contain the Australians than have batsmen. If we concede extra runs (due to lack of a genuine bowler) even the batsmen will be under excessive pressure.

Also this ground has been a good hunting ground for both the Indian openers. I think atleast one of them will come good.

Isn't it a mystery why the general perception is false? Why did he create a wrong impression?

Normally, when does the selection committee come out with the team for a certain game?i.e, the playing 11.
Has Shreesanth been rested for the remaining games? badrinath was supposed to have been brought in place of Ghambir..wonder if the new comers would get a chance to play the Aussies.

Unfortunately, in the last 10 years India never beat Australia batting second. So if India loses toss, chances are it lost the match :)

The last time India won batting second against Australia was in the 97 Sharjah which established Tendulkar as the greatest batsman of our times.

You are quite right my friend. Sharjah 1998 it is indeed when India chased a total successfully against the Aussies and won by 6 wickets.

True again. There have been 32 matches with results and 3 no results. Out of which India has won only 7 :Shockked: .

Nitin, each team will have to submit a list of players selected for the game with the playing XI and the 12th man before scheduled beginning of the toss to the ICC match referee. This copy will also be given to the rival captains for reference. Should any substitution occur (due to injury/illness) during practice hours after the toss and before the scheduled start of play, it can be done only with the consent of the opposing captain.

Normal trend they follow these days is that both teams send out a list of the 12 men likely to play as soon as they hit the grounds & settle into the dressing rooms. Just before the captains go out for the toss a final confirmation list is handed out to the match referee (who in turn submits it to captains) after which normally no changes are made.

Most teams finalize their composition at the team meeting the previous evening. But there have been many instances of changes made on the day of the match, seeing the latest condition of pitches as well.

2 out of the Fab 3 are back in the pavilion. What a shameful start on a flat bed.

And wait, now we have an excuse if the third takes 50 ***** for 5 runs. He is consolidating you see ;-)

I really hope Sachin scores fast and a lot of runs negating these early setbacks.

Toss India, Batting :Cheering:

Bad, 2 of Fab 3 back to warm the seats, both without opening their account. Will this affect the 3rd

Poor sachin ! gets his partner run out on his 400th ODI.

Two down for India in the first over itself

I think the team manager (and not Dhoni) will ask either Dravid/Ganguly to sit out in next match (Dropped). I personally feel Dravid should be dropped as he is out of form and is not able to play quality fast bowling.

Ohh ****. Yuvi also gone........
