I thought Yuvraj would be in the list atleast. He was the hero of the last World cup, deserves to be given atleast an opportunity. I can see the list of probables is very much based on the IPL performances. How many of these players do have the international experience? I mean able to handle the sledging going to to happen.

IMO the list should have come out may during or after the Australian tour, the players who prove their mettle would automatically be in the team

Cricket Australia Board declares there will be Phil Hughes playing in the first test against India in the 11 men squad as a tribute .. They will be playing as a 10 men team (being hughes the 11th )... This will be one of its own kind in the history of Test Cricket... What a Tribute..#&lrm;Respect

Irfan would have been handy in his prime but right now he neither has pace nor the movement to trouble batsman. Stuart Binny should somehow fit into the final squad but he's more of a bits & pieces player than a proper all-rounder.
Rishi Dhawan isn't tested & is too big a risk for the World Cup!

So predictable first two days, and an unexpected third day of play.

Good to see the batters fight. I think Aussies will think of replacing Siddle with a more attacking bowler in case things go like this in the second innings.

Murali Vijay was looking awesome till Johnson came for the 2nd spell. I was amazed by the grace with which he was meeting the ball. Boy, this man is stylish.

But then couple of balls at the throat and the front foot stopped moving and there was sudden death in the familiar territory.

This match is remiding me of 1999 test match against Pakistan in Chennai. Tendulkar = Kohli, Saqlain = Lyon and Other batsmen throwing their wickets away. I wish the simalarity ends with India's win here. I can only hope so as India lost the Chennai match by less than 20 runs.

Commendable effort, but disappointed that he didn't take it to the end. If Karn and Shami can scrap 25 runs each, this match is in the bag. Australia are favourites though.

Though it feels like we were so close to winning the test and in the end lost by just 48 runs, fact remains that the Aussies were not bowled out in either innings, needless to say a much better batting performance by them. Also, their star bowler was Nathan Lyon, a spinner who bowled them to victory with his great spell in the second innings! :D

Whats missing today is that crucial sixth man. With Laxman in the ranks we never felt it. Assuming some how the top order scrapes through the runs we need, its the 5 down to last, where we fall short of a batsman who can bat with the bowlers. Laxman did it so well.

Having said all that, for the first time felt happy even with the defeat. If this spirit continues, it would do lot of good (esp if this is infectious!)

The margin was 16 runs.We were almost winning but had not won. With enough balls to go there was no need for Tendulkar to go over the fielder. That resulted in India's defeat. A tidbit. After the match the Pakistan team ran around the stadium like the soccer winners.

Ampere : Sad lack of application. 8 wickets in the last session!! With around 4 runs required per over there was no necessity for heroics. This is once again an example of wresting defeat from the jaws of victory which our team is famous for.
Even after Saha/Kohli's fall the rest could have tried for a draw. Draw in worse circumstances is not unknown.
At Adelaide Lindsay Kline (no 11 batsman) with Mackay defied the West Indies for 100 minutes and salvaged a draw.
In the same series he was the last man out on the last ball of Hall in the tied Brisbane test.
Another one. A few years back the last N. Zealander played for 100 balls without scoring a run.

He couldn't stand anymore. He had back pain through the inning, but it had got unbearable at this point. It was either finish it in a few balls or retire hurt.
