Now it is crowd abuse in SA that is in the limelight, again with the same line coming into question, because crowds in Australia also can be very abusive.

Much of this has to be a response to what is seen on the field, I am sure, and fuelled by alcohol as well.

We perhaps do it better - we throw bottles. As to cheering the opposing team for good deeds, whatever there was in the past of this conduct, has now gone away in India as well. One sees a lot more of that in Eng/Aus, to be honest.

Perhaps it is time to give the long dead spirit of the game a well deserved funeral and move to yellow and red cards. Playing the rest of a test match a player or two short would be a good motivation to decent behaviour.

Bancroft has something like a sandpaper in his pocket and rubbing it to the ball. This was caught on camera. Faf du plessis in the dressing room was also showing that. Then from the Aussie dressing room, coach Lehmann sent a message on walkie talkie via 12th man in the dugout. After that he took it out of pocket and kept it inside his brief also caught on camera. Then umpires asked him what was inside his pocket. He showed some sunglasses cover made of velvet.

I do not know why the ICC has allowed walkie-talkie's on the ground, surely must be for convenience sake & this is the first time i'm actually seeing a proper dug out in a test match.

Australians are like - only they are allowed to cheat and abuse others - for others they promptly draw line!

I don't think that Shane Warne realised exactly what he is saying - if the quote in Sydney Morning Herald attributed to him on the Bancroft actions is accurate:
"You know when you get caught you've got to own up and be honest."

Really? You have to be honest when you get caught - not until then? That's a new low, even for Australians.

... What a bunch of lies. Cheaters and sore losers, this (and all) Aussie cricket teams. Leads credence to Virat Kohli's allegations of cheating vis-a-vis a brain fade !!

Not expecting much from ICC & Match Referee apart from a few demerit points & match fee being cut. I'm more interested in what action Cricket Australia takes !

Cricket's credibility has taken a big hit this series, and it's a shame that most of us are resigned to the authorities not doing much, if anything, to send a strong message.

Yes, this is a golden opportunity to do just this, along with Warne from whatever role he has been brought in for. It is time to call time on the Australians.

And yes, Smith has just elevated Kohli from being thought guilty of exaggeration to one calling a spade a spade. And given all of us a solid reason why Cricket Australia did not take Kohli to court last year for slander. There is no case for slander when the truth is aired.

Also interesting to see Handscomb involved in this incident as well. And Lehmann trying to run away from responsibility. Based on this:

Smith is a great batsman, but seems to be amoral. If he isn't sacked in 24 hours, I will be very surprised. Or maybe not:-), he is just Australian and therefore excused.

Instead of what happened here:

I tend to believe that Tendulkar was doing just what is quoted - remove a piece of grass.

A brilliant summary:

"The world already had a low opinion of the Australian team, reflected in the indifference to their protests about abuse from the crowd. To then be caught cheating so egregiously on the same day they had complained was the "smoking gun" to underline countless low assertions about their integrity and approach to the game. The Australian line has become a noose."

I still believe though that we should continue to hold the Indian team to higher standards in every aspect of the game, including its spirit, reinforcing the belief that the ugly Australian can be beaten without descending to his level of ugliness. And it seems now, to cheating.

How much lower can this Australian team stoop ?

They claim the leadership group had planned this (to rough up the ball and get something to happen favorably for Australia) but are sorry/ashamed :Frustrati

The highest possible action (suspensions, bans, fines) must be taken by ICC and Cricket Australia for this.

The thing about saying sorry is that there needs to be contrition behind it; Smith seems to be just saying sorry as a formula to escape punishment far too often.

He has also pulled a fast one by roping in the "leadership group" as part of the decision to cheat; whoever that includes, has to include Warner. The problem CA now has is that there is no alternate captain in the touring eleven to take over from Smith, which is another hurdle (cleverly?) created by Smith in his being removed. The idiot Clarke has of course been quick to volunteer.

The CA chief interview is pathetic, with the man hiding behind process before making any decisions. But the Australian PM has in effect said what the rest of the world already sees - how can a self admitted cheat be allowed to be in charge of the team? There is nothing more that an enquiry will establish except the guilt of Lehmann who has run away from the charge. It will be interesting to see if Smith plays this Test because it is not impossible for Australia to win or draw it with a hundred from him. Which will be very embarassing all around if it happens.

This ought to be a good time for all teams to quietly clean up their acts as well - except for NZ, none play like gentlemen.
