I also think Moody will be a good choice, but given how Indian cricket management works and the influence Kohli wields over it these days, I think Shastri will get another extension!
Yes, the captain's opinion or preference must be taken into consideration, but it can't be a mandate.
On the contrary, they may not select shastri just to prove a point to Kohli.
Mike Hesson should also be good.
I really like Mike Hesson and Tom Moody. Either one should be fine, the key is not to be overawed by the superstars.
If news reports are to go by, it will be Shastri again. :Frustrati
Just hoping that Kapil still doesn't like Shastri. ;)

There was no better choice. Only if Gary Kirsten was in running I had hope but now Shastri it will be. And let's be honest. Though most of us despise him Indian team has won a lot of series under him. World cup semifinal debacle aside we have been quite good at international level. Hopefully we might win T20 World cup next year.
It is Ravi Shastri.
Wish him good luck :)

I will say - wish us good luck !!
I'm not too convinced that he's the right man for the job. I hope it's not Kohli that has influenced this decision.
What is the length of his contract? 4 years? If we don't win the T20 WC, there'll be some serious questions to answer.

Oh boy I was right after all when I suspected this might be the case! :Shockked:
It's not him, it's the team and us fans who need all the good luck to bear with him again :D
Why are people so anti Shastri here on this board? It's not like he has to go down and bat or Bowl in the middle.
It's more of a team manager position. He is there for support and if players are happy with this arrangement then so be it. Anyway it's more of a ceremonial role or an administrative role. They have a big backroom team and specialists for everything. Manager might be more to take care of personal issues these days. I think the team has been super successful in recent times and this arrangement may continue. Why break something that ain't broken?

Quoting Harsha Bhogle's tweet

In this two year period, India don't only play two T20 World Cups, they also play 4 tests in Australia, 10 against England (5 home and 5 away) and a World Test Championship final if they make it there.

In India, we idolize people who are educated & act middle classy & humble irrespective of they are actually so or not. Take for e.g. Harsha Bhogle, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble etc. Ravi Shastri doesn't behave middle classy or humble - so he is not generally liked. That said, I wasn't in favour of him or Kumble being appointed as coach originally and would have preferred Hesson to him right now.

No, as coach Shastri has a much bigger & different role to play - he is responsible for overall technical aspects of the team's game, team performance, strategy, team selection among other things.
For the administrative part, there is an Administrative manager, currently Sunil Subramaniam plays that role.
In my mind Shastri was part of the coterie that did not have India's best team in place for the world cup but had folks who cover each other's a$$ when things go south. It was also indicative of people with more clout and advertisement might that were retained in the playing eleven. He is bad news for team India. But I admire his politicking ability to be able to retain his spot.
