What is India's national flower?
What is India's national bird?
It had to be some bird, some flower and some game. Hence Hockey is India's national game. Does Govt of India has any specials plans for Hockey? I have no idea.

Sad but true!!!
"What is India's national game?"
Throw this question quickly and ask them to answer without letting them think. You can be sure of getting "Cricket" as a majority reply.
An answer as "Hockey" was last seen only in our school General Knowledge books. |
Chill guys. Respect for the big3 and respect for the young exuberance. And i think therein there is the winning edge along with home turf advantage for this upcoming series. Only time will tell. Lets hope for the best.

I really didn't find that funny. Bad sense of humour I must have.

Did you really mean that? Or maybe we also have:
1. National emblem.
2. National flag.
3. National anthem etc were arbitrarily chosen only because we OUGHT to have them?
Diabloo, there are specific reasons why a particular entity was chosen to represent our nation. I suggest you go back to your social science books and look them up.
those were our glorious hockey days. i read somewhere that even sir don bradman was very impressed with how dhyan chand played hockey. apparently sir don witnessed a hockey match and commented that indian hockey team is scoring goals like cricket runs.
i hope hockey sees those days again.
Crow VS Peacock:
The only factor where Peacock scores over a Crow is in beauty department (again beauty is subjective). There is no reason why crow can't be national bird.
Hockey VS Cricket:
At the time of choosing some game as national game, India was doing well in Hockey with the great Dyan Chand playing the game. Hence Hockey was chosen. If some game is to be choose today, it could be cricket.
I wonder why we don't have a national fruit, national tree, etc.

WE DO!
National fruit - Mango.
National tree - Banyan tree.
National calender - Based on SAKA ERA & has correspondence to the Gregorian calendar.
National Song - Vande Mataram.
I am appalled :Shockked: .
Great man. I never knew this.

National Portal of India : Know India : National Symbols
Why doesn't the Govt of India site mention the National Game?

Also, what all can we take in? Is there any restriction of video/digital camera?
(my friend has promised the tickets, just in case he keeps his promise :)).

The pass says, bottles, crackers, cigarettes, transistors & video cameras are not allowed
How would I know? I didn't create the site. But I do know, like many other Indian's here that HOCKEY is our national game. And thats that.
National Game Of India - Indian National Game - National Game India - India National Game
Luke, I suggest you park your car MILES away from the venue, Sadashivnagar is a good choice and take a rick from there. And make sure you reach the ground by about 1 if the match is scheduled to start at 2:30.
The frenzy you will witness outside the stadium is worth witnessing. The enthusiasm, the dressing up of fans in various colours brings out a smile. Expect really long queues, maybe you might get lucky with the corporate box. I think the ticket should have a map of which gate you should enter, if not kindly figure that out first.
I think you are allowed to take cameras, binoculars, mobiles, flags, cardboards, sketch pens etc. No musical instruments were allowed last time I had been to the stadium. Cigarettes & lighters I am not sure about, but during the Indo-Pak WC QF they were particular about getting rid of them in some stands.
All those of you who are going for the match kindly make sure you carry binoculars, without which it will be really difficult to follow the game. In the end all you will be doing is cheering along with the crowd. The best view IMO is in the stands on top right above long leg and slips (in the subsequent over). Pull out some really funky placards and you will be certain to be shown on TV.
I got 8 passes, my brother and his friends will be going to watch the match. I being the lazy that I am prefer sitting at home and watching the match.
Thanks Rahul, I know where the gate for this particular pass is, was only worried about my car's safety, last time around was a test match between the same teams and my wife's office was on infantry rd. so parked the car there and walked it up, but now her office has shifted and have to figure out a safe place.
Also the auto wallahs will have a field day refusing commuters like there's no tomorrow:Frustrati
Ah yes, the test match. I had been to the test match on all the days in 1998. I still recollect the brilliant show put up by Sachin, Mark Waugh & Mark Taylor in that test. Chinnaswamy stadium has had its share of some amazing matches. WC QF, test match against the Aussies (though we lost the match it was worth seeing Sachin, Mark Waugh & Taylor at their best), another ODI against the Aussies where Anil & Srinath drove India home from a loosing battle. Fond memories. But we have had many embarrassing losses as well.
Interesting thing to note is that Australia has won only 1 ODI out of the 4 played on this ground while they have not lost a test.
PS: Heavy thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow. So all of you kindly carry umbrellas and raincoats just in case.
