Children's car mod

I was wondering if anyone has modified these children's car that you get these days. My nephew has this plastic car electric car that he can drive, or can be driven by remote control like a normal R/C car. Made in China. I think they just enlarged R/C car components and made it. I find it a bit too slow. Has anyone played around with the motor and battery(without blowing it up ofcourse)?
It has a 6V 4.5Ah battery.
