With Khaled Hosseini, I found that the books were great until you got to about 100 pages from the end. At that point, it seemed that Hosseini was in a hurry to wrap up the book, and the plot/story became sensationalist and Bollywood-like. |
:thumbs up I'm feeling the same now as I read the Kite Runner. And Brix, yes that book you mention is the next on the shelf.
Just finished reading Song of Kali by Dan Simmons. Pretty intriguing and disturbing horror/thriller novel.
Anyone read Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson by G.I. Gurdjieff? I'm trying to get a copy but would like a first hand review of the book as well.
Suggest trying Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely - Very interesting book about us irrational beings :D
Any fantasy fiction fans here? My favorites:
- Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series
- Jason Cosmo by Dan McGirt
- L.E.Modesitt Jr
- Marion Zimmer Bradley (especially the Darkover series and Trillium series)
- John Norman's "GOR" series
And in science-fiction:
- Isaac Asimov's Foundation series and Robot series
- Philip K Dick
- Arthur C Clarke

What was the last Grisham you read?
My last 3 were Appeal (2008) which is super (I have read it 3-4 times atleast), Associate (2009) which is decent, Ford County(2009) - short stories, not so good. I think I have read each & every one of his earlier books.
Plan to read his next 2 soon - Theodore Boone & Confession. I think Confession was released very recently (October). |
Read Theodore Boone. Very average. Worth reading once, if you have nothing better to do, but nothing to write home about.
It's a kid's book - written for 8-12 year olds.
Presently reading Chetan Bhagat's - 2 states - Story of my marriage. Finding it interesting, have finished about 40% only. Trying to find time to read the balance.
Presently reading "Gone Tomorrow" by Lee Child. Have read about 50%. Good read.
Have managed to salvage most of his books recently since his books are very gripping and at times unputdownable!!! .
my top 5 books:-
1.The last of the mohicans
2.The jim corbett omnibus
3.Human all too human
4.The will to power
5. Swiss family robinson
At present i am reading nothing
Just finished "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown. Its ok. Somehow I dont like the end of his novels. It feels like the fizz is out by the time it finishes. Its sometimes stretched unnecessarily. "Da Vinci Code" was better.
Trying to lay hands on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series or some Jeffery Archer/Michael Chrichton stuff.
