These logs are stored in the gpx format. I use EasyGPS to download/upload tracks and waypoints.

The roads are very easy. The diversion to Melukote is marked very well after Mandya.
But if one wants to go to Tonnur first then diversion is not marked. But I could easily get it from MMI/Satguide maps and they match
very well with Google Earth/Maps.

Since its Mysore road no issues for food. All in all perfect getaway for outdoor photography.

I'd been to Thonnur kere in May. Some more info to add to your post - it was an extremely clean lake, unspoilt waters I must say. Did you find an alternate route to trek up that hill? I just drove up there in my car and the climb hardly took 5 min.

The easiest way to remember the route is
- if coming from mysore side, turn left after srirangapatna bridge
- if coming from bangalore side, turn right before srirangapatna bridge

this road leads to pandavapura. I think we bypassed Pandavapura and travelled some extra kms to reach this Thonnur lake, with help from some local villagers. There are 3 temples at the bottom of this hill, quite popular for tourist visits.

oh sorry, my bad! I thought you were referring to the Mysore road diversion to thonnur kere.

Alternate route to avoid the srirangapatna bridge? I hadn't yet purchased MMI when I went to thonnur. I should try it sometime with MMI.

I think I remember now this hillock was on the other side of the lake. There was a fork at the bottom of the hill and I took a left turn to reach the top in ~1km. The other road went straight and I think that led to the small hillock on the other side. I remember seeing those huge red stones and boulders on the other side.

Is this the hillock where you trekked?

A note on Thattekere lake:

While on a visit today I noted that it is very easy to hit lake this if one is coming
from Kanakpura road. From Banneragatta side, there are lots of twists and turns and
road condition is also not that great.

While on the other hand if one takes NH209, he can peacefully drive till Harohalli,
take some pain crossing the bad roads around Harohalli and directly land into a beautiful drive.

I think for recent Thattekere BHP drive, folks used the BG Road access.
Just curious if you any of tried the Harohalli option? I found it much better.

Yes that is true. Another thing I noticed is that, MMI maps show a more prominent road leading to a different location,
while the actual road leading to Jigani and Banneragatta is totally different. Though its marked on MMI maps,
but it shows up a small village road, where as in reality that is the main road!

But yes the drive was awesome! We spotted Drongos, Kingfishers and what not.

Need a help.

A bunch of us from Bangalore, plan to do some trekking in Panchgani. Does anyone know of an organization that arranges treks in Panchgani? Essentially we need help from someone in planning the whole trip:
- accommodation in Panchagani,
- plan out the actual treks with food/water etc.,
- plan out some evening activities
- arrange for local transport if needed

The thought of driving to Panchgani is salivating, but we will park it for another day and travel by a night Volvo to save time.
