^^ He was mentally unstable and stole the State Transport bus from the depot. Then started driving on the wrong side crushing everything and everyone that came his way... He was finally stopped near Neelayam Theater!
This is...crazy! No words to describe it.

Yes that's true. Santosh Mane is the name of the maniac. Police arrested him near Neelayam theatre. 2 people died, 3 are critically injured. He hijacked the ST bus from Swargate depo, which was empty. Damaged 25 vehicles, 9 people dashed.
I am watching the TV & the same news is being flashed on all the channels. Eye witnesses are saying that the maniac was shouting madly while driving, he entered into no entry road, one ways etc & he was blindly driving the bus over whatever came in his way. He has been arrested & take to Police Commissioner office
Bus number MH14 BT1532, Satara-Swargate-Satara. In the clippings saw one badly crumpled Ford (red colour), a Maruti 800, & couple of other cars

This happened near my office at Neelayam cinema.
Luckily I am not in the area. Full traffic jams have been reported.
Police panchanama is going on..
Yes, few colleagues who came in the morning through that road saw the broken up vehicles; one auto, one car and couple of two wheelers it seems.
Very sad indeed.
Edit: It seems the bus hit more number of vehicles.
And only yesterday I was posting here that it has become dangerous for us to even stand on the roads. Something that could have been prevented by securing the vehicle inside the depot.
Very shocking incident. I don't think this is a classic road rage incident since NDTV is reporting that the bus was hijacked when its regular driver was not in it. There were questions raised on the man's ability to drive a bus as well.
It's hard to find meaning in something so senseless. I feel bad for the families of those that got mowed down. Were there some children also among those killed?
Was the guy arrested? What's his story?
Edit: Link to the NDTV article which has some more details now. The man *was* an employee of MSRTC though not scheduled to drive that particular bus. Cops plan to charge him for murder, which is good.

Today morning I was stuck due to this incident. Took turn from Dandekar bridge and reached my office via Pune station. Horrible incident, manaic killed 9 people.
I wonder why he wasn't shot down by police. In US even if the Police deem any action as threatening, they are authorized to use deadly force. Here, the guy was on rampage killing innocent lives, should have been shot. At least some lives could have been saved.
I was planning to start early by 7:30am, thank god I was delayed.
Ohhhh Myyyyyyy Godddddd:Shockked::Shockked:
This is very bad, really very bad. I just saw the news flashing on the channels. Its becoming very dangerous on the roads. What may have triggered this?
My sis in law takes the route, called her up to ensure everythings Ok with her.
Good that the police are charging the insane guy for murder.

+1 agree: You are spot on. Infact when I was watching the news one of the eye witnesses said that somehow he along with two other policemen managed to get into that bus in the driver's cabin. The police had gun in his hand but did not dare to shoot the maniac. The other person asked the police to hand over the gun to him so that he can shoot. But the police denied & then got off from the bus when it slowed down. Other police on the road who opened the fire did not aim the maniac, but shot on the tyres & the steel body, which proved futile
The news report mentions he took the bus from Swargate to Sholapur Rd and Napier Rd, which is in opposite direction to Sinhgarh road. No reports of how he brought it near Dandekar bridge and covered 25 kms
This is so sad and shocking!!!
Just last month one person was killed in Narayangaon by a maniac who had hijacked an ST bus. Did quick googling of marathi news sites and came up with six more incidents of "busjacking" in last few months in Maharashtra alone :Shockked: So it's not so uncommon after all...

Only one of the incidents above involves a private bus rest all involve ST/local transport. How can the authorities let this happen? How many people have to die before the authorities and politicians wake up?
If busjacking is so easy, it is not very difficult to imagine any terrorists doing this. You don't need to send people to Pakistan to get trained, no bombs, no guns, no explosives, it's so easy.. just go to Maharashtra hijack a bus. :Shockked:

The statistic which you have mentioned is staggering Mandar. :Frustrati
This is kind of investigation done by the Garcia in American TV series "Criminal minds" which catch serial criminals.
This indeed looks like a serial crime pattern. The only difference is it is committed by different people.
Hope the authorities do something about securing the buses adequately :deadhorse
