Traffic update by SMS - Delhi (To be started soon)

The Facebook page of Delhi Traffic Police says that they are going to start the SMS updates (free service) in Delhi. These SMS updates will be related to the traffic situation, breakdowns, arrangement etc.

People can join this service by sending SMS "Join DTP" to 09219592195.

Here is the screenshot of their message on my Facebook account:

EDIT: This is again a very good move by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Delhi - Mr. Satyender Garg.

Looks like a very good initiative. Specially the part which mentions that there would be NO advertisements with sms updates.

I hope this works well and they implement such a system in all metro cities soon!

Its not new, it was running from year or so. May be stopped for a while. But if you are registered with DND (Do Not Disturb) then you won't get them.

They are restarting this service without any ads this time.

And the Facebook post clearly says that those who are on DND will also receive these SMSes, provided they join this service (please check the last line of their post).

I used to get the updates but stopped receiving them once I subscribed to do not disturb service.

This update service was started by DTP during CWG games.

I will prefer traffic updates through my fb page rather than receiving SMSes every now and then.

There is a similar traffic system already in place in Bangalore (BTIS) , It not only provides SMS updates but provides congestion levels and live feeds from traffic cameras across various parts of the city if you visit the website.

Its a neat little website where you can check the traffic , register complaints and even check your vehicle records.

For mobile updates : BTIS - Traffic and Directions on your mobile

For other facilities : BTIS - Bangalore Transport Information System

IMO the traffic update was never stopped. I am getting the traffic updates. It could be due to DND registration.
