Got to read about this notion of "Geopathic Stress" and its potential link with accident spots - such as on the Pune-Mumbai expressway.

A study (dated Sept 2011) by Sunil Pimplikar, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Maharashtra Institute of Technology tries to correlate accident spots on Pune-Mumbai expressway with geopathic stress.

"According to geophysicists, there is a natural magnetic field on the earth's surface to which all beings are acclimatised. Geopathic stress arises when this natural magnetic field of the earth is distorted by weak radiations, lying beyond the electromagnetic spectrum, generated by underground streams of water, sewers, drains, certain mineral concentrations, fault lines and underground cavities."

Geopathic stress zones may exert a "profound debilitating impact on the physiological condition of the drivers".

Some newspaper articles on the topic:

Strangely there is no wikipedia page on the concept. But you will find a lot of websites mentioning this on the lines of feng shu / vastu and all that - possibly (mis)using a scientific sounding term to sell their services.

I did not find an existing thread on this topic, except for a mention in the following post by lloydofcochin:

So thought of triggering this discussion.

Any subject matter experts, could you please throw some light on this topic?

Kindly move the thread to appropriate category if this is not the right forum.

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Street Experiences Section. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure if this is in the realm of pseudo science or is a proven effect.

What loads of bull - anyone driving on expressway know the reason why most accidents happen:

Over speeding + over confidence
On straight runs, people love to assume that its a runway and their vehicles are like airplane running for a takeoff.

On the bends, people believe they are driving F1 vehicles in Monaco circuit and feel confident that even at 80 kmph they can do the complete hairpin U bend.

I am not sure how relevant the theory is and have not read the papers thoroughly. Although it is interesting for sure.

Sharing the links I have dug.

Will love to have more information from the members.

I think there is some credence to the finding. Geopathic or not, there are some zones that have almost a universal adverse effect on drivers psychological conditions, say for example, near the areas where offices are situated.

Good one! Perhaps you should have added a smiley...
