Last night at around 19.30 hrs I was traveling back to home from office. It's a main road with divider in between for 60% on 15 kms stretch. On this road its more like a highway traffic with heavy vehicles plying at higher speeds and the roads will rarely witness bumper to bumper traffic. I was travelling in my bike & could see a person at a 100 mts distance before me was trying something different.

He was doing "S"'s with his bike (moving between right and left),but somehow managed without felling down. He has reached a place where there was no divider inbetween & to my surprise he went to the other side of the road at the same pace. Again managed to get hold of a electric post leaning for few minutes. I stopped my bike and wanted to understand what actually was going on.

Oh! my god, he was completely boozed & not in his senses. All of sudden he engaged the gears, moved to the left & repeating the same thing. I started following him. He seems to be in his 40's and well built.

Got a chance to talk to a guy who attempted to overtake me. I explained him the situation and seeked his help to stop the drunkard. He advised me to ignore it.

The drunkard hit a small pothole, lost his balance & was thrown away from his bike. He was laying flat on the right hand side of the road. I was shocked to see a car coming in the opposite direction, which came to a screeching halt. Driver managed to stop the car inches before that guy. A small crowd gathered in no time & few of them wanted to pounce on the driver without even knowing what has happened. The smart driver quickly moved away from that place once his way got cleared. Crowd disappeared quickly understanding nothing is there for them.

This guy had a miraculous escape with minor bruises. Again he attempted to start the bike & succeeded in it. I went to him & advised to take some rest before he could proceed. He gave a strong message by staring at me, "thats none of my business".

I thought for a while. He's not in a state, where he could understand, what Iam trying to convey. Hence, no way Iam going to convince this guy, But at the same time, I dont want to leave him in that condition as in the backdrop of my mind Iam thinking about his family and kids

I walked to him, grabbed his bike keys & moved quickly from that place. I could hear he was shouting at me for keys till I moved away from his sight.

I am not bothered about how he could reach the home, I am happy that the chances of getting hit by other vehicles are less.

Thats a really nice thing to do surprise .In all probalities you have saved this guys life.

In today's fast paced life, it is rare that someone would stop and save a drunkard risking his life!

You certainly showed more persistence than I would have in the matter of trying to knock sense into a drunkard. Even if he had a spare key, he would have needed to change his lock eventually (for safety)-- which is a deserved punishment for his drunken behaviour.

As for the drunkard, he didn't deserve what he got. He was lucky he got away easy.

That was indeed a "surprise" to all of us

The incident again proved that always the bigger vehicle would be at fault by the road side public.When do we learn the rule of the road.However,like a good samaritan BHPian you had done your duty by going out of your way.Regards for the same.

An Excellent job done by you. You have not only saved his life but also of others on the road who could be victim of hitting him headon. What fault could be there of a person who hits people like this who are drunk. Whose mistake is it then!!!

You also saved may be a husband and a father may be .... Really a good job. Well done Sirji.

good job. you must have saved sombody a lot of trouble if they hit him. and also possiblly the life of that drunkard. hope you threw the keys away to teach him a lesson.
